Lorenzo is really stepping up this season for a Minnehaha team that lost a lot from last season’s team. Defensively he was a menace with his on ball pressure, forcing mistakes, 10 second calls, and picking up steals/jump balls with his quick hands and effort to dive on the floor. His effort was noticeable all over the floor with him diving for multiple loose balls and pulling in rebounds among much taller players. Offensively he excelled at creating shots for himself and his teammates. His shifty handle allowed him to consistently beat his man and just pin him on his hip. From there he could explode to the basket to score with either hand, or locate and open shooter with a quick pass. Was delivering those kickout passes with speed and accuracy right into the shooter’s hands. He was already having a big game, but really took over in overtime with a handful of finishes and big defensive plays to give his team the win.
Highlights
On the receiving end of a lot of Lorenzo’s kickout passes was Fitta Jafar. The junior guard always had his hands ready to shoot, and showcased a quick and confidence release even in the face of a closeout. It seemed like any time Minnehaha needed a bucket, Fitta Jafar found himself in space on the perimeter to knock down a three. Finished with 18 points in an overtime win for Minnehaha.
Blake came up short in overtime to Minnehaha, but Grayson made some big plays to help them get to that point. Trailing by three with just seconds to play, Grayson got to his spot on the wing, got a defender to jump with a shot fake, and then drained a deep three to send the game into OT at the buzzer. During regulation he impressed with his composure to get to the basket and makes plays as a finisher. Had some strong scores through contact, but also did a nice job of being aware of defenders to step by them and avoid charge calls.
Highlights
Jalen went off for 43 points to help lead BSM past Eden Prairie last night. There just wasn’t anything the defense could do to stop him, as he was scoring the ball in a variety of ways. He was most effective out of the post though, and was able to establish deep position without the ball, while also being able to drive into a post-up from the wing as he handles the ball so well at 6’7-6’8. Jalen was also dangerous catching out of the high post because he could simply face up and either get to the rim or pull-up for a mid-range shot. Wilson was so efficient scoring throughout the game, and was hitting shots at the rim, from the mid-range, and from beyond the arc. In the final minutes of the game he had four straight buckets that helped secure the win for his team.
Nolen was providing a big offensive spark for Eden Prairie, including a pair of threes late in the game to help keep his team in it. He brings good size to the wing, but also impressed with his change of direction and ability to handle the ball under pressure at that size. Nolen did the bulk of his scoring as he’s so dangerous coming off screens and quickly getting his hands and feet ready to shoot off the catch. Also showed a comfort getting to his spot off one/two dribbles and shooting off the bounce. Finished with a team high 20 points in the close loss.
Ron may go a bit overlooked at times on this talented BSM team, but his impact on both ends is substantial. Last night he was constantly putting pressure on opposing ball handlers, both forcing mistakes and just making it difficult for them to get into their offense. He has elite lateral quickness and the effort to match, which makes him such a tough on-ball defender. Offensively he’s no slouch either, coming up with some key makes in the second half when his team was trailing. Showed he can pull up from three or mid-range and knock down the open jumper. Finished with 11 points in the win.

Parker went from playing mostly JV last season to earning a starting spot for Eden Prairie as a senior. At 6’7 he has solid mobility which allows him to play inside or out, and he’s a dangerous shooter at his size. Did the bulk of his scoring popping out to the three point line and letting it fly off the catch. You don’t see a lot of guys at 6’7 who move with the comfortability and have a smooth stroke like Parker does. Also added in a transition dunk towards the end of the game. He finished with 16 points against a tough BSM team.
