MCLAIN UP ENDS HALE
In a battle of 2-0 TPS Class 4A programs, McLain defended home court with a 58-42 win over Hale. McLain had opened the season with a pair of wins over fellow TPS programs, and that clearly prepared them well to take down a talented Hale squad with high expectations. This win marks the Titans as a squad to follow closely in a wide open 4A, especially as they head to the Tahlequah tournament next week.
NEW COACHES PICK UP FIRST WIN
Last season, as assistant coaches Dorrian Williams and Chevis Smith were key parts of Douglass and Millwood’s respective runs to State Championships. Now they have moved a seat over with Williams as the new head coach at Millwood, and Smith returning to the 580 to take over Lawton. Both coaches helped navigate squads with serious March aspirations to wins to start their high school head coaching careers. Williams and the Falcons soared to 79-55 win over Destiny Christian. While Smith and the Wolverines won 65-51 over a visiting Northwest Classen team.
TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS
Let’s give a quick rundown of a few who handled business in blowout victories for their teams.
2025 Guard Roman Miller Roman Miller 6'4" | CG Mustang | 2025 State OK poured in 40 points, while freshman Tyson Pogi Tyson Pogi 5'11" | PG Mustang | 2027 State OK had 24 points in Mustang’s 96-27 win over Capitol Hill
2024 Guard Gavin Loper Gavin Loper 6'3" | PG Westmoore | 2024 State OK only needed 15 minutes to score 19 points and grab 6 rebounds in a 103-38 win for Westmoore over Lawton Eisenhower
2025 Forward Jalil Cotton Jalil Cotton 6'5" | PF Tulsa Memorial | 2025 State OK made good on the prediction that he would be a walking double double, with 10 points and 11 rebounds in a 70-33 Tulsa Memorial win over McAlester.
2024 Forward Luke Gray Luke Gray 6'7" | PF Oklahoma Christian | 2024 State OK and his OCS Saints handled business with a 63-40 win over Oklahoma Christian Academy. The physical senior forward had a casual, by his standards, double double with 28 points and 13 rebounds. He went an efficient 12-14 from the field and connected on both of his shots from deep.
2025 Guard Cal Furnish Cal Furnish 5'11" | PG Crossings Christian | 2025 State OK and Crossings Christians are new to 5A and handled business in a 69-46 win over Elgin. The cerebral point guard took over from a scoring standpoint, with a team high 27 points. Impressively he did it on only 12 field goal attempts.
TOP PERFORMERS
Holland Hall opened their first full season in Class 5A with a big district clash against Edison. It was a battle of two teams that reached the Class 5A tournament last season, and would be a tone setter over who potentially could be the favorite to win District 5A-4. The Dutch successfully defended home court, with a 62-46 victory. And senior Benton’s 27 points were a huge reason why. As a junior, Benton went from “just a shooter” to a crafty overall scorer. Now as a stronger and more confident senior, he’s one of the most complete scorers in 5A. This could set the stage for a huge week for Benton and the Dutch, as on Friday they also host Tulsa Memorial.

Brandon Avedon
Brandon Avedon
Senior guard Brandon Avedon is looking to leave his mark for the Comets this year and he started his senior campaign with a bang. Bishop Kelley went wire to wire in their 61-46 win over district foe Pryor, with Avedon leading the way. He poured in 28 points. Next up for Avedon and the Comets is a big test against Booker T Washington. A win there would be huge for establishing the Comets as a contender in district.
Sharpshooting senior Marques Smith Marques Smith 5’11” | CG Tulsa Central | 2024 State OK lead the Braves with 29 points on Tuesday night. His scoring was just enough for the Braves to open their season with a 61-56 victory at Skiatook. It’s Smith’s first season with the Braves, but he was already established as a quality floor spacer. Now, it looks like he’ll be scoring more to end his high school career, especially as Central has a rivalry match up on Friday with fellow TPS program Webster.
For three quarters, a younger Sabercats squad battled against a senior laden Choctaw team. But in the fourth, Choctaw pulled away for the 73-61 win. A big reason why Southmore was able to hang around? Sophomore Kolton Brammer Kolton Brammer 6’2″ | PG Southmoore | 2026 State OK . He looked good as a freshman, picking his spots with efficient scoring. Heading into this game, Brammer had multiple strong scrimmage performances, and last night he proved they were no fluke with 26 points.

The athletic Ardmore wing forward caught the eye a couple weeks at the East-West scrimmage and based on his stat line from Tuesday, the upside he flashed was no fluke. Booker-Brown led the way with 22 points and recorded 4 blocks as well. The Tigers won 72-56 over Duncan. The senior remains a very interesting prospect for Oklahoma junior colleges.
