For a stretch there, it looked Furnish had one more signature magical moment. He ripped off 8 straight in the fourth, giving Crossings a four point lead late in the game. Because that’s what the cerebral point guard does, he picks his spots to be the difference. It’s been an amazing four year career, with him often playing the role of traditional point guard. But when Crossings needed points, he would find them. This time it was off the dribble with snaking drives and perfect english on the ball at the rim. The senior finished with 17 points, leaving a lasting impression on the Crossings program and Oklahoma.

Furnish blistered the nets with a pair of early threes, which put Crossings ahead. A lead they would never give up as cool and calm Cal navigated the Trojan pressure. He always makes the right pass, seeing things no one else in Oklahoma can see. It was more of the same today, with his handles and passing being keys to Crossings handle Douglass’ speed and pressure. The Knights only committed 6 turnovers, and that came with the ball heavily in Furnish’s hands. The ORU signee finished with 19 points and the most important stat, a win.

Cool and calm Cal finished out his four year Tournament of Champions career with a casual 15 point and 5 assists. Scored in spurts when needed, including a second quarter stretch where he cooked in the mid-range. It won’t be the last time the 405 guard shines in the 918, as he’s signed with Oral Roberts.

If Furnish is given space, even from 25+ feet chances are he’s shooting it. And the odds are it’s going in. He made it look easy in the first frame, connecting five times from distance. Including volleyball line threes. The early lead his shooting built was crucial for Crossings, as they nearly led wire to wire. They briefly gave up the lead in the fourth but cool and calm Cal helped navigate the bumps and delivered the win with more scoring and his elite vision. He knows when to set up his teammates and when to put the team on his back with his own scoring. The ORU signee is the leader of a 4A Knights squad that is now 4-0 against Class 6A competition this season.

The 405 lead guard picked up an offer from Vermont following a strong weekend in Indianapolis. He was the primary offensive hub for Griffin, due to fearless three point shooting and the ability to get downhill and set up teammates. Furnish is an excellent passer, that set up teammates at the rim and along the perimeter with pinpoint passes. With Vermont breaking the seal for D1 offers, expect the heady floor general to become a popular target for low t0 mid programs that are willing to take chances on smaller guards who can run the show.

Furnish gives his team the steady play-making that you want from your PG but with some shooting and self-creation shots. A pure PG first, he got past his matchup and kept him on his hip while drawing the help to create an open look for his teammates. He comes off ball screens tight and makes quick, decisive reads while he has the airspace to do so. Very active and pesky defensively, drew a charge in transition and was effective in his digs down to the block–forcing several tie-ups.

Furnish’s usual pinpoint three point shooting was off in the contest. So, the crafty junior guard found ways to finish around the rim and earn trips to the free throw line with 16 points. Impressively from a floor general standpoint, the box score indicated he was able to avoid turnovers against a quick and pressure Del City team. While valuing the ball, he handed out 3 assists with his outstanding vision and reading of the game. For Crossings to conquer a loaded Class 5A field, Furnish’s jumper will need to return to form. Which surely it will, as he’s been a clutch performer since his freshman year.

Furnish is the best passer not only in the class, but also in the conversation for best in the last few years in Oklahoma. He can seemingly make any type of pass, from fancy bounce passes in transition, drive and kickouts, serving up alley oops, great reads off of ball screens and many more. It’s just not the accuracy on his passes, it’s the way he anticipates the game in transition and halfcourt. Furnish has this unique gift that shows he’s often thinking multiple steps ahead. If he was a soccer player he would be a creative midfielder with a high total of “chances created”. Oh yeah, along with his passing Furnish can also fill it up from DEEP as one of the better shooters in Oklahoma.
