Continue ReadingDuring the 2023 calendar year, I had the opportunity to attend a handful of boys events across a handful of different states and see hundreds of players compete. At each event, when I am covering a good amount of different players, I take small “live” notes. These notes are brief write-ups about each player, describing their game and why they stood out to me in that specific moment. In the article below I am going to highlight some of the best players that I have seen on the road this year and what I have written down for their live, in-game, notes.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Calvin “CJ” Armstrong (MN) – 2025 – 6’3 – G – Richfield High School – D1 Minnesota 3SSB
“Impressive 3 guard, who can kind of do it all. Possesses a fundamental pull up off of the dribble, while being athletic enough to get to the rim.”
Callen Gebhardt (CO) – 2025 – 6’2 – PG – Erie High School – Colorado Titans
“Fast PG. Handles well under pressure. Ultimate floor general. Can spread out and shoot it off of the catch if someone else creates for him. The definition of having a fast-twitch type-game.“
Trentyn Mead (AR) – 2025 – 6’1 – PG – Augusta High School – Arkansas Ducks
“Undefined leader with the ball in his hands. Creates at a high rate for everyone around him but also has the ability to score by himself. Strong and determined whenever he gets downhill. Scrappy on defense and lives off of opponent turnovers.”
JJ Craig JJ Craig 6'2" | PG Warren Central | 2027 State IN JR (IN) – 6’2 – CG/SF – Warren Central HS – N/A
“Determined & physically dominate athlete. Shows touch and coordination with the ball in his hands from behind the arc & near the hoop. Will’s his teams to victory.”
Tavian Crawford Tavian Crawford 6'2" | CG Sun Prairie West | 2025 State WI (WI) – 2025 – 6’2 – G – Sun Prairie West High School – United Hoops Basketball
“Game-changer because of his work ethic and dedication. Makes a lot of plays happen because of his hustle alone. Was the deciding factor on his team winning a championship this weekend. Very skilled but more importantly, very smart and calculated on both sides of the floor. Someone a coach can trust in.”
Falmata Yusuf (IA) – 2027 – 6’3 – G – Sioux City East High School – Martin Bros UAA
“Fami was one of the best freshman that I have seen this season. A player that in game, did a windmill off of one of the first possessions, followed by hitting a three pointer the very next play. Size, skill, and athleticism is all there. One of the highest ceilings I’ve seen from a player this year so far.”
Derrick Cross JR (IN) – 2027 – 6’2 – CG/PG – Bloomington North HS – N/A
“Lengthy guard who can handle and attack going either direction. Has a nice step back jumper he uses over smaller defenders to score on the regular.”
Elijah King Elijah King 6'2" | PG South Bend St. Joseph | 2027 IN (IN) – 2027 – 6’2 – CG – N/A – N/A
“King really played like a king in game 1 today. Did whatever he wanted on offense while being dominate on defense. Will see varsity minutes this season during HS ball, no matter where he attends.”
Carter Patti (MN) – 2025 – 5’7 – PG – Menomonee Falls High School – ABC Young Lions
“Patti is the definition of shifty at 5’7, with a dynamic passing ability. Not to mention, he can shoot it. Like his overall game. Productive, smart, and doesn’t force any action. Been really solid at the PG spot today.”
