Continue ReadingOn Monday we released our initial Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2027 Watch List featuring 190 of the best freshmen from across the state. We do not rank prospects in the freshmen class until we’ve been able to at least see them play for their respective high school teams, so there won’t be a ranking until our next update. However, we still continue to grow the watch list over the next few months before ultimately releasing a Top 25 after the first of the year. With that being said, we will know who a few of the very best prospects are in the class and what names you’ll be hearing sooner rather than later this high school season. Between our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase and other events from the summer and fall we have already started to get a grasp on these younger prospects. So, here are eight point guards in the Class of 2027 that we have enjoyed watching early on in their careers.
If there is a player that you feel deserves to be on our Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2027 Watch List PLEASE shoot me a DM on Twitter @BRamseyKSR or send me an email at coachbrandonramsey@gmail.com. I will make sure to add them to my database and include them in the next update of our Watch List.
***Please disregard the Position Ranking that is being listed in the player profile. We are working to remove those on the backend. All prospects are simply listed alphabetically.***
This prospect out of Tipton High School burst onto the scene this summer with Grand Park Premier and continued his strong play into our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. At 6’1″, Auler has some positional size in the backcourt right now which he uses to be an effective finisher at the end of his drives. He is very comfortable playing either on or off of the ball, but at our showcase he impressed with his playmaking skills when running the point.
Highlights
This Bloomington North product was one of the most impressive individual performers at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase on August 27th. He is highly skilled at scoring off of the dribble as he showed by consistently scoring it from all three levels against some of his best peers in the state. Cross Jr. has the requisite size and length already to play the position and should find his way onto the floor for the Cougars this season as a freshman.
Daniels is very, very talented with the ball in his hands. There are few prospects in the Class of 2027 that are as quick or as shifty as this Cathedral High School point guard. He can get into the paint any time he wants off of the dribble, displays a tight handle against pressure, and is a creative finisher when he gets to the basket. Daniels got some varsity experience over the summer with the Fighting Irish and has a very bright future as a primary playmaker.
One of the more explosive guards at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase at the end of August, Fuller will step in right away as a go-to guy for Liberty Christian. He is smaller in stature, but makes up for it with some upper body strength and big time athleticism when driving to the basket. Fuller has the ability to stop on a dime and rise up in a jump shot or explode all the way to the rim to finish. You will definitely be hearing his name some sooner rather than later this winter.
Fans of Indiana High School Basketball should recognize this last night. There is a familiar level of explosiveness when watching this prospect that will remind you of his father who won Indiana Mr. Basketball in 1999 and went on to become an All-American at Arizona. Anyway, Garner Jr. is incredibly quick with the ball in transition, can change speeds and directions in the half court with a real burst, and has shown the ability to score at the end of his drives. He is a really impressive prospect.
The defending Class 3A state runner-up Golden Eagles have a veteran, talented backcourt that will make them one of the favorites once again this season. Grissom will be more than ready to step in a year from now after those seniors graduate. The 6’1″ guard has proven himself as a very good shooter both off of the dribble and when playing off the ball. He can create his own shot, has shown the ability to create for his teammates, is a very willing defender.
After an outstanding summer with Indiana Elite Swish, Tonagel’s name is one that was mentioned to me a lot when contacting trusted friends and sources around the state inquiring about the best freshmen in the state. He is a talented playmaker, an excellent shooter, and the basketball IQ you would expect as the son of a highly successful college coach. Tonagel will have a highly successful career at Oak Hill High School and will definitely be a name we will hear a lot of over the next four years.
Certainly the most well-known of the incoming freshmen point guards, Zachary has dominated the grassroots scene in recent years and immediately took on a ball handling role this summer for Fishers at the varsity level. He is an excellent facilitator with a toughness and basketball IQ well beyond his years. He will get plenty of opportunities to learn and grow right away in the Tigers backcourt this winter. Zachary is one of the best overall prospects in Indiana’s Class of 2027.
