Continue ReadingBean is a high IQ guard who makes a major impact on the game on both ends of the floor. He’s tough and physical, and loves to take smaller defenders onto the block and either initiate the offense from there or score with great footwork and touch. He sees the floor really well and creative passer, and is a good on-ball defender. He averaged 14.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.8 steals a game as a junior at Xavier, and has transferred to Kennedy for his senior season.
Highlights
Courtney is a sensational athlete on the perimeter for the Cougars, using his athleticism and length to impact the game on the defensive end. He moves his feet extremely well and has the length to jump passing lanes and contest shots. Offensively, he’s at his best when he’s playing downhill and getting to the rim, using a quick first step to blow by defenders and his physicality and athleticism to finish at the bucket. He averaged 9.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.9 steals a game on 57% shooting as a junior.
Schlaak is an extremely efficient combo forward who can score inside and out at a high clip. He averaged 12.3 points and 7.0 rebounds on 67% shooting as a junior. While he didn’t shoot it from deep often (just 14 attempts), he has a smooth stroke and buried 64% of his attempts last season. He provides some versatility on the defensive end, contesting shots and moving his feet on the perimeter. He has committed to play his college ball at D2 Southwest Minnesota State.
Earl has battled injuries over the last few years, but when he’s healthy and going well, he’s as good a wing scorer as there is in the state. The son of former Iowa big man Acie Earl, Kareem has great footwork and he uses his footwork and size to create some additional space to get his shot off. He averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists a game as a junior.
Kampman is a versatile defender who is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. At 6-8 and with a ton of mobility, he can protect the paint, switch onto the perimeter, and rebound well on both ends of the floor. His offensive game is still a work in progress, but he’s improving his footwork and touch around the rim, and showed some ability to put the ball on the floor throughout the summer with the Iowa Barnstormers. He averaged 7.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks a game as a junior for the Lightning.
Costello is a long wing who can create off the dribble or play without the ball in his hands and knock down shots off the catch. He made his name with Pure Prep as a dynamic three-level scorer, putting up some huge scoring games during his 15U and 16U seasons, and then was really good in a different role as a junior at Waukee last season, shining as a playmaking wing who led the team in assists. He averaged 8.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists a game last season.
Highlights
Like Earl, Johnson is a player who has battled injuries over the last few years, but when he’s healthy, he’s about as good a lead guard as there is in the state. He’s a good ball-handler and passer who protects the ball and gets his teammates involved. He’s also a fantastic shooter who buried 42% of his 3-point attempts as a junior while averaging 15.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists.
A long, athletic wing who can defend multiple positions and score from all three levels, Deng can do a little bit of everything on the floor for the Tigers. His length and athleticism can be a major difference maker on both ends of the floor. He averaged 10.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 steals a game as a sophomore.
Highlights
Jirak is a high upside big man with mobility and size that college programs covet. At 6-9, he has good footwork and touch around the rim, soft hands, and is a really good shot blocker with great timing and instincts. He averaged 9.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks a game as a sophomore for the Tigers.
Cahill is a bouncy forward who loves to finish above the rim, and he does so with authority. He has really good hands and an explosive second jump that he uses to control the glass on both ends of the floor. He had a good summer and should have a fantastic senior season for the Mustangs after averaging 11.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists on 55% shooting as a junior.
