So instead, I’m opting to break down prospects by area. Here’s a look at the top players in Southern Kentucky and surrounding areas. This list is not meant to be a ranking of best college prospects. More of a list of best overall players in the area.
One of the best prospects in Kentucky, Noah is headed to South Carolina for college after choosing the Gamecocks over about 25 other suitors. A big time scorer and playmaker, Trent is one of the best players to come out of Southern Kentucky since I’ve covered the sport.
Highlights
Noah’s running mate at Harlan County, Huff is a good prospect in his own right. Already holding 2 D1 offers, Maddox is a high level shooter and advanced playmaker who continues to improve his all around game. Between Huff and Noah, hopes are high that the Black Bears get to Rupp this season.
Highlights
Jordan has high potential and has shown the ability to play inside and out on offense. An above average rim protector at the forward spot, Mabe is long and bouncy with great instincts.
Highlights
One of the best scorers in the 25 class, Sawyer is likely to end up a 3,000 point scorer before his career ends. Thompson is relied on to do a lot for Pineville and has to be among the most valuable players to his team in the entire state.
Highlights
Another player who is cruising towards a 3,000+ point career, Phillips is a versatile bucket getter that plays the wing but can also go in the post and score against undersized players.
Highlights
Another small school star, McClendon has has a really good career for the Dragons and could challenge Trent Noah Trent Noah 6’7″ | SF Harlan County | 2024 State #139 Nation KY for regional player of the year.
Going from Williamsburg to Clay County over the summer, Roark should help the Tigers get back to being regional title contenders in 2024. Jerrod is a pure scorer who gives the Clay County offense an added dimension and keeps them from having to rely on Hayden Harris Hayden Harris 6’7″ | SF Clay County | 2024 State KY .
One of the big stock boosters of the summer on the Prep Hoops circuit, Whitaker has started to add scholarship offers and is one of the best players in the 12th region this season.
Highlights
Fraley is not a glamorous player. He plays bully ball and beats up smaller guards on his way to big time scoring and creating opportunities for teammates. But winning is very glamorous and Carson is a flat out winner. Always making winning plays for his team.
Highlights
Reece makes the list for his potential more than his production. Davidson picked up D1 offers this summer and has a high ceiling as a 6’7 stretch 4. Two years removed from a serious knee injury, Reece is starting to realize his potential and is only going to get better as he should be a featured player for the Jags this season.
