As opposed to previous years, Atkins didn’t play much AAU basketball but instead decided to focus on working out on his own. He’s added strength and athleticism and in the action we watched of him in June and in the fall, it’s led to him being even more effective getting to the hoop and finishing. His shooting remains sharp and we fully expect him to be one of the state’s top scorers this season.
Joining Atkins in the second five is Bierbrauer, who had a solid campaign on the AAU circuit largely playing with Dynasty. At 6-foot-5, he’s a solid athlete who can really finish at the rim but has been continuing to develop as an all-around player. His emergence as a force in 2022-23 will lead to even bigger things this upcoming season as he’ll be counted upon by Barlow to provide rebounding and defense in addition to scoring.
Griffin is one of the top stock risers in this update of the rankings, and it’s not just because he made the decision to transfer to the new prep school in town. The 6-foot-5 wing became a force to be reckoned with the latter part of sophomore year at Wells and this summer, he was able to showcase not only his athleticism but ability to create and make shots. He’s off to a solid start so far with the RA Prep Prospects.
He’s overshadowed a little by the talented senior guard trio at Roosevelt, but those in the know understand the value of Nathan. The 6-foot-2 guard basically does it all on the basketball court on both ends and is the type of player that makes an impact even when he isn’t on offense – he finished in 6A’s top ten in both blocks and steals. He’s a tremendous athlete who also played soccer and football this fall.
Barron rounds out the top ten as the third member of the Barlow Bruins on the list. The 6-foot-6 swingman was one of the biggest stock risers in this rankings update after opening eyes this summer by growing a couple of inches and starting to tap into his vast athletic talents on the court. He’s on the cusp of receiving his first offer and when that happens, watch out.
