Unfortunately, I was not able to attend Sunday’s games but there were plenty of exciting games on Saturday including St. John Bosco vs Windward, Notre Dame (SO) vs Roosevelt, and Mater Dei vs Mira Costa.
Kade had great success scoring the ball on the interior this weekend in St. John Bosco’s close win over Windward. He used his body very effectively to get valuable position in the paint, was able to finish in a multitude of ways around the basket, and got to the free throw line.
Elzie showed off his smooth mid range game on Saturday in St. John Bosco’s competitive win over Windward. He has a great ability to get to his spot around the free throw line and elevate to shoot over any smaller guards matched up on him. Harrington also played the pick n’ roll very effectively and showed a deep vocabulary of moves off of it.
Jeremiah made plays on both ends on Saturday in Windward’s tough loss to St. John Bosco. He made an impact on the defensive end by playing tough man defense, grabbing rebounds, and getting in passing lanes to generate deflections/steals. Offensively, Hampton shot the ball well from 3 and showed good touch as well as body control when attacking the basket.
Gavin contributed all over the court on Saturday in Windward’s 2-point loss to St. John Bosco. He uses his quickness, lateral speed, and strength to be an effective defender who limits the quality of opponents shots on the perimeter, and is able to be a 1-man fast break when he grabs a defensive rebound. Hightower also attacks the basket with great touch on the offensive end and can go both left and right confidently.
Isaac caught fire from three on Saturday in Roosevelt’s win over Notre Dame (SO), earning Player of the Game honors for his sharpshooting performance. The ball comes out of Williamson’s hand incredibly smoothly and he is confident shooting the 3 even a few feet beyond the line. His handle and shoot off the dribble ability is what makes him so hard to guard and keeps defenders on their toes.
Luke shot the ball tremendously effectively from 3 on Saturday as Mater Dei beat Mira Costa. Barnett showed off his very quick release, his ability to move intelligently without the ball, and perhaps most importantly, the athleticism and body control to square his body up to the basket before shooting after running at full speed.
