The GCL-South always has some of the top teams and talent in SW Ohio and some programs are looking to get back to the top of the state after early playoff exits. Wassler averaged 5.5 PPG with a strong end to his Sophomore season, giving me reason to believe he’ll pick up where he left off and be a force in the paint for the Bombers. With opposing teams having a lot of size to match-up with Wassler, his rebounding and strength in the paint will allow them to compete with conference rivals. After a last place finish in the 2022-23 season, St Xavier could be a bounce back team this winter.
Similar to his older brother Jacob, who was a late bloomer at Alter, Brady could see a Junior season surge after getting very limited action at the varsity level as a Sophomore. With his size, ball skills and athleticism, Conner has the talent to be a big time prospect down the road. Already receiving Division I offers from Stetson and Marshall, Conner is a prime breakout candidate this winter for an Alter squad that should contend for a state championship in Division II.

Brecksville will be one of the top teams in northeast Ohio this winter and with star Luke Skaljac Luke Skaljac 6’2″ | PG Brecksville-Broadview Hts | 2024 State #162 Nation OH running the show, there will be plenty of scoring chances for his supporting cast this winter. In steps Ganley who had some moments as a Sophomore scoring the ball efficiently but is primed for a breakout this winter. He had a strong summer with OBC’s 16 U group as he became more confident creating for himself and improving as an athlete. Expect Ganley to play a key role for the Bees as they look to make a deep playoff run this winter.
Unfortunately, Perkins only got to play half a season last year but after scoring 6.3 PPG in 10 games last season, he’s set to be an all-conference performer this winter. After a strong spring with Team Wildcat HGSL 16 U, Perkins and Juan Cranford Jr were dominant for Wayne in the month of June as a guard duo. Look for Perkins to be a household name in the Dayton area by the midway point of the season.

A prospect I first saw on the Prep Hoops Circuit, Riep has big time athleticism for a wing forward and has an impressive summer highlight tape from his time with Elite Mentality. Just starting to blossom with his physical tools and putting it together to lead to production, Riep could be a breakout star in arguably the toughest conference top to bottom in the state.
