Saint Xavier went into Wyoming and ended the Cowboys unbeaten season in a grind it out contest where Wassler’s size was a differentiating factor. Wassler grabbed 9 rebounds, which was nearly as many as Wyoming’s entire team grabbed (12). Wassler also tied for a game high with four made field goals. Able to set screens on the perimeter, finish on the inside and even knock down a timely 3-pointer, Wassler is starting to impact the game offensively in more ways than he did as a Junior. Timely free throw shooting was another key as Wassler converted on four of five free throw attempts. A statement win for the Bombers who are in pole position for the GCL title and a top seed in the Division I playoffs.

This is a prospect I’ve been high on for a while and his recruitment seems to be slowly taking shape. Wassler posted his first Division I offer from Purdue Fort Wayne and has had some other Division I coaches at his practices this fall. Division I schools are always looking for bigs and after the weekend Wassler had in Rock Hill, I knew some Division I schools would start calling. We’ll see if Wassler makes an early decision before his senior season tips off or if he’ll be one of the last Division I commits from the 2025 class in Ohio.

Wassler had a big game in a victory over Lutheran East and has put up strong stats for an improving Cincy St Xavier squad. At 12.4 points and 7.7 rebounds, Wassler sits fifth in the conference in scoring and second in rebounding. On the defensive end, Wassler averages 1.1 blocks per game which leads the conference. All of these numbers are up massively from his sophomore season averages of 5.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and half a block per game. I expect Wassler to get a lot of scholarship interest from a variety of levels this summer if he continues this upward trajectory.

of Lutheran East and helped the Bombers get a signature victory over the previously unbeaten Falcons. Wassler knocked down a couple of perimeter shots, battled physically and rebounded it at a high level. With his back to the basket, Wassler made a couple nice post moves with a seal and turn and other finishes at the rim. St Xavier also used Wassler to break the full court press at times, allowing him to dribble it across the timeline. Overall, I thought Wassler looked much improved from where he was at the summer and I’m excited to see if he brings this level of play every time in the future. Wassler should receive heavy interest from Division II and NAIA scholarship programs in the spring and summer and should be checked out by regional low to mid major programs as well.

The GCL-South always has some of the top teams and talent in SW Ohio and some programs are looking to get back to the top of the state after early playoff exits. Wassler averaged 5.5 PPG with a strong end to his Sophomore season, giving me reason to believe he’ll pick up where he left off and be a force in the paint for the Bombers. With opposing teams having a lot of size to match-up with Wassler, his rebounding and strength in the paint will allow them to compete with conference rivals. After a last place finish in the 2022-23 season, St Xavier could be a bounce back team this winter.

Wassler has the tools and size of a college basketball player. Listed at 6’8 he is a big body that moves well. I watched him play in a very intense physical game against the Illinois Wolves team and he did not back down from the challenge at all. He embraced the contact and gave it right back to them. He showed good moves in the post, his go-to was his over-the-left shoulder right-handed hook shot. He made a three off a pick-n-pop. His athleticism won’t wow you but he is someone that colleges should definitely check him out. Seems like he could easily develop into a very nice 4-year college big for a small school.

I had one open timeslot open up in my schedule which allowed me to check out Midwest Gold 16 U Cincy for the first time since the Midwest Showcase to start the month of April. I left impressed with Wassler as the center did a good job of keeping the ball high when he got it in the paint. Whether it was after receiving a post entry pass or after grabbing an offensive rebound, Wassler kept it high so the only result was either a finish at the rim or a foul. Attempting to show his range as a shooter, Wassler’s jumper is a work in progress right now. A prospect who started to figure things out at the end of his Sophomore season, I expect Wassler to play a major role next season for the Bombers who just hired a new head coach.
