The Brick League: Week 1 Top Performers

Smith made some nice moves in a tight one point loss as he split the defense before making a nice kickout assist, had another double crossover move into a mid-range pull-up jumper. The lefty Smith also had some transition layups and looked confident with the ball in his hands. With his offensive ability, Smith should be an impact player for the Blue Aces program for years to come.

A middle schooler playing up at the high school age group, Lindsey certainly doesn't look out of place on a court with nothing but older players. Lindsey has a massive frame, stood tall in the paint, blocked layups and a 3-pointer and scored a handful of times in the paint. Lindsey will be a name to follow in central Ohio for years to come and getting early experience against competition that is closer to his size will help him in the long run.

Arguably my top overall performer from the day I saw, Jackson was dominating with some monster dunks down the lane and some effortless transition buckets. Jackson was a monster on the fast break and could float through the air in transition to score above the rim. With his combination of speed, athleticism and slashing, Jackson was dominant scoring around the rim.

Cowans was a teammate with Jackson as they simply ran their opposition out the gym with defensive pressure, forcing turnovers and transition layups. Cowans was another hard slasher to the rim as he would rip and go to baseline drives and either score or get fouled at the rim. Cowans is an older guard on a Reynoldsburg squad that will have a brand new look team with four Division I commits graduating over the past two years and some transfers leaving the program, Cowans has the opportunity to be a leader on a scrappy group that could surprise some people.

Smith impressed me with his ability to run the floor, catch and finish in transition. Smith took long strides which allowed him to beat other forwards down the court and had the awareness to score at the rim either on quick hand finishes or reverse layups around the rim. Smith is very right hand dominant at the basket and did a nice job getting back to his preferred hand to score. Also making a couple mid-range shots, Smith was one of the most productive players in his teams blowout victory.
