There has been quite a bit of movement this offseason, where many of these transfers are looking to be key contributors right from the jump with their respective new teams. Let’s talk a closer look at some of these prospects and what they bring to the table.
Newson, the transfer from Cape Coral, may not only be one of the most exciting players in the area, but in the entire state. The sophomore point guard has tremendous speed and athleticism, and you can tell he just loves the game where he plays with a certain swagger. He’s a tough nosed, gritty defender who likes to get out and run. On the offensive side of things his ball-handling is second to none and his court vision make him an elite PG. Newson can score in bunches too, where he averaged 22.3 ppg last season, look for him to continue his success this season at North Fort Myers.

The ECS transfer and area’s top scorer from a season ago will give the Vikings a major offensive boost this year. Williams is a true 3-level scorer, where he can knock down the 3-ball consistently, along with a very solid mid-range game, but it’s his speed and quickness which make him very difficult to defend. He can beat you off the dribble or if you give him space he can knock down the outside shot at a high rate. Keep an eye on this 2025 prospect as he looks to lead a much improved Bishop Verot squad 2023-24.
Myles Jones
Myles Jones
Jones joins an already talented Gateway Charter squad who’s coming off a successful 2022-23 season. The 6’3″ CG does it all on the offensive end, his unlimited range and ability to take it to the hole, along with his long, athletic frame make him an extremely tough matchup. On the defensive end he’s able to guard almost any position and plays with a lot of heart and intensity. Look for Jones to fit right in with this roster and be a major contributor for the Griffins as they look to repeat as district champs.
Taking the trek over the Peace River, Chin joins the Tarpons after starting at PG for Port Charlotte last season. Chin is a well-rounded guard who does it on both ends off the floor, and plays with real grit and passion. He will guard you for 90 feet and is just a nuisance on defense, and will look to be a catalyst for Charlotte on offense. He likes to get his teammates involved, but will also put the ball in the bucket at a high-rate and is very successful at taking it to the rim for his size. Look for Chin to fit right into this Tarpons lineup and contribute right away.
Sam Powell
Sam Powell
Powell comes over to the Titans after a successful freshman campaign with Lely last year. The dual-sport athlete looks to have an immediate impact with his new team in 2023-24. He is a strong, tough, and aggressive kid who has a knack for getting to the basket but will also knock down the open shot when called upon. With his strong frame and athletic build he can guard all positions and gives it 100% every time he steps on the court. Keep an eye on this prospect as he continues to grow his game with his new squad throughout this season.
