Seems this player got motivated in the second half because he had a really good spurt of scoring and competitive play. Thinking this prospect could make an impact this year for the Trojans, whether he starts or gets valuable minutes off the bench. He battles on the boards, and on the offensive end goes hard to the hoop. He had about five hard takes to the hoop in the half, 3 resulted in score and /or and 1s, but 2 resulted in charges being called. He’ll half to add pull-ups or jump stop finishes to his game to avoid those in the future. Towards the end of the game, he had an impressive dunk to seal the win.

I notice a few things that I liked in his game against Wauwatosa West. He is competitive and fiery. He goes hard to the hoop with a variety of fakes and finishes. Too keep the game close in the second half I believe I counted four drives through contact that helped to show his will to win. His best play was a crafty pass to a teammate in traffic down low. I also noticed a challenge he will need to overcome and that is directing that fiery competitiveness in the correct way; getting teammates involved making the correct basketball play etc. On whole though this is a player that can make a solid impact within Martin Luther games.

He hit seven three pointers……….. that’s it that’s the post and the story.

Third time during this fall league that I have mentioned this one’s play in some fashion or another. A player that can shoot, a player that can go to the hoop, a player that works, a player that today has shown me some really good hops. D3s schools should be all over this one, with select D2s if he improves in a couple of areas. I like him and I might have to make a rare adjustment to my annual favorite players list.

I saw some very positive things out of this player today. He had multiple blocks, both on the interior and out then out on the perimeter. Sometimes they were very flashy swat backs that had the crowd jumping. Saw a right hand dominant hard drive late, then using the left hand on rebound put backs down low. Then, because of his hops we saw multiple dunks, which at times were explosive and thunderous.

In a short stretch I saw the junior hit a three, apply some open court pressure defense to gain a steal, a hard drive to the hoop against contact, and then a bucket on the inside with traffic. His play helped Marquette to jump out on a Whitnall team in the first half. In the second half, he hits a timely three to extend the lead into double digits. On the very next play after a long rebound by Minnesale he showed his basketball IQ on a back door cut to the hoop for an easy two-point bucket. Finally, he iced the game late with a very unselfish pass for the assist.

Don’t ever jump with this one, like ever. For that matter, if you’re his opponent, you have to stay in front of him, stopping the drive because he’ll throw one down on you. He had multiple dunks in this game, including an incredibly hard two-handed back scratcher. On a side note, the kid can pass too, setting his teammates up on a couple of nice passes for easy buckets.
Arrowhead Warhawks
Once again, this team looks almost in mid-season form (wrote the same thing last year). They move the ball well on the offensive end. Share the ball and often make the extra pass. Then they can get after it on the defensive end. They beat their opponent by 38 points in the first game and up by 15+ plus by half time of their second game. They get good leadership from their seniors and contributions by nice young players.

How many times do I have to write that Jaquan Johnson Jaquan Johnson 5'10" | PG Pius XI | 2024 State WI out here doing Jaquan Johnson Jaquan Johnson 5'10" | PG Pius XI | 2024 State WI things. Meaning, he is running the floor faster than almost everyone else, drives the lane, gets the heck knock out of him, hits the shot, gets up off the floor, goes to the line to hit the 3pt play. Next two times down the court because he is moving so fast and his plus court vision, he is feeding his teammates for perfect easy buckets in the lane. I can’t imagine a more dynamic player in his class in the state.
