In a regional finals win over Burlington, Jaquan put up 27 of Pius XI’s 54 points, while assisting on a handful of buckets as well. He just has a different level of strength for a high school guard, and with that defenders have such a hard time of keeping him away from the rim. Even if he isn’t able to get by his man initially with his quickness and handle, he’ll just power right through them around the rim. He’s so good at hanging in the air and keeping his chin at the rim through contact to finish even when fouled. I really like how he looks to push the ball off a defensive rebound, and always keeps his eyes scanning the floor. This allows him to launch deep outlet passes or handle it up the floor and deliver a pocket pass to a slashing teammate.

Jaquan got off to a slow start as he couldn’t seem to find his shot, but ended up taking over to lead Pius XI past Milwaukee Rufus King. At the high school level he’s able to play bully ball, as he utilizes his strong frame to just power his way to the rim at times. Defenders often times have no choice but to foul him as he excels at finishing against taller players, and even when fouled he’s strong enough to finish at a high rate. Once he got his game going in the paint Jaquan was showcasing his shot creating ability on the perimeter. With his ability to get into the paint came plenty of drive-and-kick passes as he hit his shooters right in the hands. As good of a rebounder as you’ll find under 6′ as well. Finished with an impressive 38 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists in a win.

I think the world of this player and if you watch his game, I think you would soon come to appreciate what he does. At 5’9″ or 5’10” he gives up his body to win or succeed. Or maybe a better way to say it is that he thrives on contact and feeds off of it. If you try to get physical or intimidating he will just beat you at this game. Often, on the floor after getting knocked down he’ll get up to hit the And1, the next time down hit a big three, or a dynamic pass when he is trusting his teammates.
Why: rnRead the paragraph above again
Why Not:rnSuperior names in front of his. His high school, Pius, will be competitive, but not projected to make it to state. Jaquan can be a very quiet person who is not at all about self-promotion. He’ll get his opportunity at the next level to outshine others. but a coach could give a vote because of paly style.
