Expert Analysis

There was simply no stopping Mitchell in the second half as he put up 27 of game-best 40 points to help Oshkosh North play from in front the entire half. Mitchell’s smooth moves along the baseline and in the lane were no match for the Fond du Lac defenders, who had done a good job in the first 18 minutes of limiting his touches and crowding him when he put the ball on the floor. In addition to repeatedly scoring around the basket, Mitchell also drew numerous fouls and made 12-of-14 foul attempts. The two plays who guard Mitchell the most during the contest — seniors

— both fouled out for Fond du Lac. Mitchell is one of six finalists for the Mr. Basketball award, and the performance of the Iowa State recruit against an outstanding Fond du Lac team most certainly will help his cause and he approaches the fourth period of what has been nothing short of a sensational high school career.

Mitchell scored 38 points and in the process went over 2,000 points for his four-year varsity career. The Iowa State recruit is the all-time leading scorer in the storied tradition of Oshkosh North basketball, which includes so many great players, including Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers and former Vanderbilt star Frank Seckar, among many others. Mitchell is exceptionally graceful on the court with his movements, particularly when he grabs the ball along the baseline and glides to the basket around defenders for a basket. He can definitely play with physicality as well. And he is such a tough cover for opponents due to his consistent production and ability to handle the ball, pass it, score it and rebound it. He is a top candidate for the Mr. Basketball award and is the No. 1-ranked class of 2025 prospect in the state by Prep Hoops Wisconsin.
