The Top 250 Expo was another loaded event but this time we got to see everyone show their stuff with 20 minute half’s. I graded several guards on their impact on both sides of the ball and even off ball play and how they get their bigs involved. Here are my top 10 guards from the event that all have potential to play at the next level with continued development of their current skillset.
Jonathan Lungeni Jonathan Lungeni 6'1" Argyle | 2026 TX
Jonathan Lungeni Jonathan Lungeni 6'1" Argyle | 2026 TX
One of favorite guards from the expo. 2026 Jonathan Lungeni Jonathan Lungeni 6’1″ Argyle | 2026 TX is a long guard with superior scoring and passing skills. Consistency comes to mind here, he may have been the events leading scorer as well. He plays most effective on ball in the half court setting, using his size to get downhill and finish. His shot and ball handling are also super polished as well. He has a calm feel for the game and understand when to attack and when to get his team mates involved. He carried weight offensively for his team but what was most impressive was his versatility on the defensive end. Not only was he active on the perimeter but at only 6’2 he was comfortable sliding down and grabbing rebounds and blocking shots on much taller players. This versatility gives him a complete package feel to only be a 2026, his upside is very HIGH if he continues to sharpen his already sharp skillset.
2026 Jacori Jones Jacori Jones 5’11” | CG Braswell | 2026 State TX was impressive all day. I have him on my radar as one of the top guards in the state after watching him operate the offense so fluently. Basketball seems to to be a natural thing for him never getting frustrated or rattled and using his his high IQ to always be in the right spot at the right time. His 3 ball is silky smooth, he can knock it down off the dribble or catch and shoot. I don’t remember him missing a open shot which is key for guards his size when we talk about next level prospects. His defense was also impressive, he blocked several jump shots and layups using his monster wingspan. Jacori is someone to watch this year at Braswell High, he might be in for a breakout season.
6’4 Brandon Stephens Brandon Stephens 6’4″ | SG Creekview | 2026 TX Jr. is a guard prospect with size I really liked. Watching him operate, he was best in the half court setting. Nothing to fancy just pure basketball coming off the dribble being able to finish at the rim over smaller guards. He also created some mismatches defensively at 6’4 he can guard multiple positions which is a huge plus. Brandon is a big guard with a high upside and someone to have on your radar as he’ll only be sophomore this season.

Alantheon Winn Alantheon Winn 6'5" | CG Little Cypress | 2024 State TX
6’5 Alantheon Winn Alantheon Winn 6’5″ | CG Little Cypress | 2024 State TX is the biggest guard listed on my list. He plays like a 1/2 at times but also can slide down to play defense on the block. His length and athletic ability are key to his game. He went on several streaks where he dominated the game on both ends going for back to back dunks with a block in between. He’s bouncy and seems to have figured out how he can contribute at the next level where he’ll be a solid 2 guard. Alantheon is in for a MAJOR season at Little Cypress, he should be on your ready seeing that he is next level ready now.
6’3 2025 Scottie Guillory Scottie Guillory 6’3″ | PG Legacy School Of Sports Sciences | 2025 TX went on a couple streaks that gave off pro vibes. His size and body type also scream D1 guard. Shifty, he was patience in 1 on 1 situations and was able to get any defender in front of him turned. I noticed his bounce was a huge factor at the rim and also on his jump shot. Scottie is also a strong kid the doesn’t mind contact on the way to the basket. Lookout for him this year, he’s heavy on my watchlist at the guard position.

Jesse Warner Jr Jesse Warner Jr 5'10" | PG Mansfield Summit | 2024 TX .
Jesse Warner Jr Jesse Warner Jr 5'10" | PG Mansfield Summit | 2024 TX .
At 5’10 it’s not easy to standout as guard when we talk about next level potential. A few boxes have to be checked before you even get a look and 2024 Jesse Warner Jr Jesse Warner Jr 5’10” | PG Mansfield Summit | 2024 TX . checks all of them. Lets start with his motor, probably one of the top motors I’ve seen in a while. Not Just in transition when a bucket is possible but flying across the court defensively getting steals and tips. Offensively he’s fun to watch, his handles are a A+ and he’s knows it. He’ll break you down and finish a smooth layup at the basket. His off ball play was also impressive, he served as a spot up shooter when off ball and shot somewhere between 60-70% on the day. He dished some nice dimes as well after bringing in 2 defenders going to the bucket. Jesse is a smooth point guard with feel for the game beyond the high school level. Make sure he’s on your radar this season.
This was my 2nd time catching True PG Trae Smith Trae Smith 6’0″ | PG Cedar Hill | 2026 TX and he is ATHLETIC. Only a 2026 his speed and high motor was on full display this weekend. Not only was active defensively, he brought high energy to the transition game as well. He can light it up in a hurry often going for a combo of 6-8 points in a row. He also shot the 3 ball at a super high percentage this weekend making him a 3 level scorer. One sign of poised player is being able to play in any environment and he looked as comfortable as possible feeding his team mates and running the offense. His quick first step also makes it tough for anybody to stay in front of him on the perimeter and his finishes are super tough overall. Trae’s stock is going way up and he should be able to get the exposure he needs contributing to a super athletic Cedar Hill squad this year.
Jamari Alexander Jamari Alexander 6'2" Harker Heights | 2024 TX
Jamari Alexander Jamari Alexander 6'2" Harker Heights | 2024 TX
6’2 Jamari Alexander Jamari Alexander 6’2″ Harker Heights | 2024 TX showed up on just about every piece of footage I had of his team playing. Offensively he’s is a modeype guard, flashy handles and step backs that were quite effective. His speed with the ball makes him tough to keep up with. He took advantage of any space the space gave him either squeezing through for a layup or stepping back and knocking down the mid range jumper. Quick hands and long arms defensively also made him one of the top guards at the showcase.
Jayden Jones Jayden Jones 6'2" | SG Tyler Legacy | 2025 TX
Jayden Jones Jayden Jones 6'2" | SG Tyler Legacy | 2025 TX
2025 Jayden Jones Jayden Jones 6’2″ | SG Tyler Legacy | 2025 TX game was clicking this weekend. Physical guard at 6’2 that can score on all 3 levels. His quick first step usually did the job but when it didn’t he also embarrassed the contact and finished tough shots. His impact is huge on the game, he also ran the court in transition well. His defense was tough, he used his length to get steals and frustrate smaller guards. I can see Jayden being a total stud with the ball in his hands when UIL starts, make sure he’s on your watchlist.
2026 James who I’ve previously wrote about is about business this fall. He impacted the game in so many other ways then scoring this weekend. He was smooth with his handle and showed a pro level pull up footwork wise. He keeps any offense he’s in organized but is also a to quick off the dribble to guard 1 on 1. His IQ and skillset combined made him a easy D1 lock, his ceiling is high and he already holds a couple offers. With the right development James can easily hold a top 10 PG spot in the state this year as he seems to be a step ahead of the pack from what I seen this weekend. Make sure James in on your watch for the upcoming season.
