Continue ReadingOn Sunday, Prep Hoops Maryland took the trip north to Manalapan, NJ for Sunday’s action of the MADE Hoops East High School Academy. Among over 150 prospects in attendance, there were MD/DC/VA prospects sprinkled in and we tried to get eyes on most of them. For this article, we’ll highlight the players that stood out during the game portion of camp that we watched.
Jasiah Cannady Jasiah Cannady 6'0" | PG St. Frances | 2026 State MD | St. Frances ’26
Cannady wasted no time getting to business in making everyone aware of his scoring ability. The 6-foot-1 point guard who will help lead a stout group of backcourt prospects at St. Frances Academy this season buried three’s off the bounce in both a halfcourt and transition setting. When defenders made their attempt with a hard closeout, Cannady used his impressive burst to explode to the basket for layups.
Daniel Abass Daniel Abass 6'7" | PF DeMatha | 2027 State MD | DeMatha ’27
Admittedly so, this was my first viewing of Abass and I walked away impressed. The Stags are used to featuring some of the top talent in the DMV as freshmen and along with others on the roster, Abass has serious potential. He’s 6-foot-7 with good size to his frame, extra long arms and a motor that gives him a solid foundation for future development. He shows flashes of handling the ball in the open floor where his sole focus was getting to the bucket. He used his length to collect rebounds in bunches and showed soft touch on a few hooks that he attempted.
Trent Egbirmolen Trent Egbirmolen 6'4" | CG St. Frances | 2025 State MD | St. Frances ’25
Another St. Frances transfer for the 2023-24 season, it was good to see Egbirmole score in a confident fashion. He’s good at playing alongside slashing guards who can create for him, but on Sunday the 6-foot-4 guard showed initiative in breaking his defender down while using his plus length to shoot over the top after creating space. When he gained an edge, he got to the rim in limited dribbles where he earned clean drives due to a lack of help side defense.
Jermel Thomas Jermel Thomas 6'0" | PG Cardinal Hayes | 2026 State NY | Cardinal Hayes ’26
In a setting that is geared more towards players showcasing their scoring ability in isolations and fast breaks, Thomas brought a breath of fresh air to the game as a point guard where it was clear that his first and second intention was to create for others. He showed wiggles off the bounce to expose any driving lanes that presented themselves and on any paint touch that he established, Thomas was aware of any open shooters around the perimeter or bigs hanging around the dunker’s spot. He played off the defense’s rotation and made the correct read what seemed like every time he dished it. Thomas was delivering no-look passes off the live dribble with either hand, fitting the ball into tight windows and clearly gets joy from making others around him better.
Makel Minor | ’27
Minor was another aggressive scoring guard who can play on or off the ball. What was clear in his approach is that Minor is a dynamite shooter from deep and if his defender is a second late with a contest, it’s more than likely going in. The 5-foot-11 guard doesn’t just bring production to the offensive side. Minor was harassing the ball handler whenever his man brought the ball down the floor and when in passing lanes, he showed instincts of anticipation using his inside hand for deflections that created run-outs.
