We’re in a different era of high school recruiting and what I mean by that is typically the day after DMV Live you’d see a slew of offers being thrown out. With college programs being more hesitant than ever as roster construction resets each year, they need to be careful in who they prioritize. Abass’ play this weekend didn’t fit to that trend as the 6-foot-7 forward collected offers from LaSalle and Richmond, which account for his fourth and fifth A10 offer respectively. He recorded a double-double of 14PTS, 11REBS and 5ASTS in a win over PVI and in the other three victories, hovered closely to double-digit rebounds as well. College coaches are attracted to his tough, rugged play around the rim and the flashes of playmaking around the perimeter attacking closeouts. Certainly a valuable weekend for the DeMatha product.

The talented 6-7 forward flash his athletic skill throughout the game showing he is comfortable knocking the perimeter jumpers or using his size to finish with authority around the basket. It is clear to see Danny game is evolving into a solid two-way forward that’s looking comfortable playing out in space or down low using his superior size. Abass finished the game with 13 points.

Abass continues to put it together quickly as a junior as the 6-foot-7 forward is imposing his will on games early this season. Last night was no different as he walked away with game MVP honors after a double-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and five stocks (steals + blocks). An enforcing presence around the rim, Abass finished with authority whenever he had enough space to play off two. He’s valuable as a trailer in transition as his jumper has improved to force his defender to closeout, leaving him the opportunity to explode of his back foot for straight-line drives that usually finish with him hanging on the rim. Really impressed with the overall improvement in Abass’ skill and mentality since last year.

I’m a fan of Danny Abass. The 6’7 forward, has a high feel, shoots it and has adequate vertical pop. Very good athlete, switchable defender and a naturally strong body. His shooting and ball-handling have improved and even though they still need work, the development is going in the right direction. Liked how hard Abass played and showed off being an athletic shot-maker. He attacks closeouts as needed and can finish or make the necessary pass. Abass filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 block.

Abass is a bruising scorer who plays with an immense deal of physicality whenever he steps onto the floor. He has no issue playing above the rim and is a human highlight reel whenever he is on the floor. He was no stranger to 2nd chance points. I like his motor and it is one of his best skills as a prospect. Abass scored many easy buckets inside and didn’t look to force shots inside the two point line. He was in great spots on defense to get rebounds and blocks.

Abass does a nice job staying within himself and doing the little things for his DeMatha squad. He is in good places on the floor to get rebounds. Abass is effective running the floor. He was also able to convert on easy scoring chances for himself. He showed he could alter shots as a rim protector. Abass has no problem making hustle plays. He keeps developing over time.

-Abass continued a torrid month of really good basketball with another standout performance on the glass in a big win over his team’s biggest rival. Abass knocked down two C+S 3s from the wings to show off a much more fluid jumper, which will be a really important swing skill for him in the long term as a prospect. He didn’t settle for jumpers though, the biggest example being a ferocious catch and rip from the top of the key to blow by his matchup and finish with an emphatic 1-handed spike above the rim through the contact (he would hit the ensuing FT). If Abass can continue to show that he has inside-out potential as an offensive prospect while continuing to make improvements to his athletic profile, I fully expect him to continue moving up our rankings and place his name on the boards of college basketball programs.

Danny Abass was a monster again for DeMatha today. Danny’s effort on the glass and overall activity has been consistently terrific. Danny is a good athlete with strong hands. Daniel is developing into a good spot-up shooter, and he is a good finisher inside. I love what he does defensively as well, and he’s one of the more versatile defenders in the summer league. He had 25 points and 11 rebounds.

Danny Abass has been dominant, and no team has been able to deal with him. Abass has grabbed tough rebounds all summer league, and his strength and hands have been terrific. His activity has been amazing, and he has gotten a number of buckets off his work on the offensive glass. Danny finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

-Really, really loved his activity on the glass in this one. Abass showed off better positioning and improved hands around the rim to come up with rebounds in traffic. The handle has really improved to get him to his spots much more efficiently from the perimeter and he didn’t settle for jumpers throughout the contest. Playing for a Stags unit that was missing a few key pieces to AAU play this weekend, Abass’ production should match this as he steps into a bigger role in his junior year.
