Preston was a last minute sign up for camp and arrived at the last minute but hit the ground running from there. Preston played well both off the ball and with the ball in his hands and was an efficient scorer all day long for what may have been the best team at the camp.
Layken is a player who just gets things done. With a quick first step and a nice finishing package, Lyons got to the rim repeatedly as the day wore on. He’s a really good scorer who does a little bit of everything else well. He may have been one of the most effective drivers at camp.
Kessler was a prospect I hadn’t seen much before but he had a good day while playing against almost all older competition in Louisville. Cole didn’t force offense but made the most of his opportunities and showed he’s ready to be a nice piece for Green County this season.
Melton is a long guard who consistently put in effort on defense all day long, even as players were wearing down. Miklos is a new name but had a good day and a strong first impression. He also showed toughness after bouncing back up after getting under cut in the first game of the day.
Matthew Hatfield
Matthew Hatfield
Coming from Logan, West Virginia, Hatfield came to Louisville and shot the cover off the ball. In an event full of good shooters, Matthew stood out as one of the very best. He rarely missed, and when he did miss, it wasn’t by much. Logan has a nice Junior PG on their roster.
One of the bigger “stock risers” from the event had to be Elijah Decker Elijah Decker 6’5″ | SF Ohio County | 2024 State KY . The 6’5 wing impressed multiple college coaches. One coach went so far as to say that he though Elijah was a top 2-3 performer in the entire event. A good athlete, Elijah is on track to be third region player of the year and should see some offers coming his way soon.
A new name coming out of Saturday’s event, Burnside was very solid over the course of three games. His team was very big overall and that allowed him to play out on the perimeter some and show off wing skills and a nice jumpshot. Also capable of scoring down low, William is suddenly on my list of players that could be a breakout in the 8th region.
Cannon was the best “big” at the event but he also showed off a nice jumpshot from range. Evolving from more of a 5 man to a stretch 4, Young has a lot of skills and is a willing passer. He needs to improve his finishing as he often missed his first shot at the rim and scored the putback. Expect Young to be a double-double machine for Clinton County this season.
I hadn’t seen much of Harris until the last 6 weeks or so and now I’ve seen him at multiple camps and he was most impressive on Saturday. Hayden is big and well built and is probably able to bully many opponents in the 13th region but also showed solid mechanics on his jumpshot and above average athleticism. Long term, he could be the type of player to go to a junior college, get more comfortable at the wing spot and end up D1 in a year.
