I have probably seen Layken play 20 times in his career. There may not be a more consistent player in Central Kentucky than Lyons. He competes on every possession and is a skilled scorer. You may point at his defense as an area for growth but, as is often the case in Kentucky, he’s never had to focus on defense because his team needs him to score so much. Layken would be a steal for a team in the Mid South Conference.

In crunch time, Lyons flat out refused to lose for Taylor County in their opening game against Daviess County. In the fourth quarter, Lyons hit a mid-range pull up, a wing 3-pointer to take the lead, had a left to right crossover to finish at the rim and helped ice the game with rebounds and free throws. Lyons was solid throughout the first three quarters, but when the game was on the line, he elevated his play to give his team the win and move on to the championship of the four team holiday tournament.

Another high academic scoring guard, Lyons is tough and knows how to score the ball from anywhere on the court. Layken has been a top player in the 5th region for several years now and will end his career as one of the best to ever play at Taylor County.

Layken is a player who just gets things done. With a quick first step and a nice finishing package, Lyons got to the rim repeatedly as the day wore on. He’s a really good scorer who does a little bit of everything else well. He may have been one of the most effective drivers at camp.

Lyons is back from injury and has his eyes set on leading Taylor County to Rupp Arena. Layken is an efficient scorer who can get a bucket at all three levels and consistently gets to the free throw line. Look for him to be a top 5-10 player in the loaded 5th region this winter.

Lyons has been one of the best pure scorers in the 5th region for the last couple of seasons and shows no signs of slowing down. Layken has shown he can knock down threes or get to the rim. As his ball handling continues to improve, he could transition over to the point guard spot at the next level.
