Continue ReadingThe fall rankings update is getting closer and closer. Beyond people being added to or dropping in the rankings, there are many who deserve to rise. Below are three of the more obvious names who should be bumped up. After that, I share some thoughts on the “Power Forwards” in the 2025 class
#123 Kodi Johnson Kodi Johnson 6'6" | SF Phelps School | 2025 State PA | 6’5 W | Phelps School + PA Coalition 17U
Transitioning from energy, small-ball 4 to a legit wing-3, Johnson is beginning to look the part. He spent the spring and summer with PA Coalition, refining his mid-range game against the best Hoop Group had to offer. Some of the most intriguing flashes came during the Chosen League and the Post & Pivot Summer League. He showed real skill creating for himself off-the-dribble. The settings were semi-structured, but those glimpses from Johnson are precursors for what he’ll be able to do come December.
#218 Oliver Schaefer Oliver Schaefer 5'11" | CG Council Rock North | 2025 State PA | 6’0 G | Council Rock North + Made Different
Schaefer is building his reputation the old-fashioned way – from the ground up. Between the grassroots season and the high school live period, he hit 1 shot after another and helped his teams battle through some tough games. All of that means a lot considering he came off the bench as a sophomore.
#262 Reece Craft Reece Craft 6'6" | SF Devon Prep | 2025 State PA | 6’5 F | Devon Prep + Philly Revolution HGSL
In an era where nobody wants to play big down on the block, Craft more than embraces his size. In AAU and with his school team, he displayed how comfortable he is going to work inside when he has the advantage. Craft is also skilled enough to knock down jumpers in the mid-range and from deep. He should take a jump in this pending update, but he’ll likely make an even bigger jump in performance once the high school season begins.
The 2025 Power Forward Class
Unlike “point guard” and “center,” “power forward” can mean a lot of things to different people because of how the game has changed in the pace-and-space era. They’re not quite wings who live on the perimeter, but they aren’t full-time post players either. And once you factor in offensive/defensive scheme-fit, college coaches from two different programs could place demands on their 4-men that are worlds apart. So “forward” is much more appropriate. Nevertheless, the 2025 class has a smorgasbord of these prospects. After the next update, there are 10-15 (power) forwards who could be within 50 spots of one another and who fit the bill for Low Major D1s, top D2s, and high academic D3s.
Ben Rill Ben Rill 6'8" | PF Central York | 2025 State PA (6’8 Central York), Carter Wamsley Carter Wamsley 6'7" | PF Eastern York | 2025 State PA (6’6 Eastern York), and Adrian Brito Adrian Brito 6'6" | PF Pocono Mountain West | 2025 State PA (6’6 Pocono Mt. West) are really polished offensively. Craft and Devon Prep teammate Zane Conlon Zane Conlon 6'5" | SF Devon Prep | 2025 State PA (6’5) had productive summers as physical and skilled two-way players. Caleb Alston-Nelson Caleb Alston-Nelson 6'7" | PF Academy of New Church | 2025 State PA (6’7 ANC), Jaden Banner Jaden Banner 6'6" | PF West Catholic | 2025 State PA (6’6 West Catholic), and Jaitavius Kelly (6’5 Chambersburg) are the uber athletic types. Isaiah Muhammad Isaiah Muhammad 6'4" | SG West Catholic | 2025 State PA (6’4 West Catholic) and Kevin Beck Kevin Beck 6'2" | CG Father Judge | 2025 State PA (6’4 Father Judge) are shooters. Pick your flavor, this class has it.
