This was a big chance for some of our in-state prospects to gain some valuable experience while getting more exposure at the same time. The Indiana State coaching staff put together a fun event with not only prospects from the state in attendance, but players came from across the country to participate. As far in-state prospects, here are some my standouts.
Highlights
While he is never going to be the biggest player on the floor, Ward is certainly always going to be one of the scrappiest. Watched him a couple times over the weekend and thought he worked well off the ball, getting to the right spots for an open look. Had a few strong drives which is an underrated part of his game. On the defensive end, he did good about staying in front of his man and was not afraid to take a charge attempt here and there.
Highlights
Carpenter came in this weekend a with a good amount of eyes on him. He was easily one of the more dynamic guards in the gym this weekend and was so impressive with his speed getting downhill and pushing the tempo when he could. He was excellent off of the dribble knifing his way into the paint like he always is and had some great assists. Will say this, D1’s are starting to take notice.
Malpass takes my award as the player I was most impressed with this weekend. While he may be from Michigan, he does plays for La Lumiere up in northern Indiana. At 6’8, Malpass, was one of the smoothest forwards I watched and scored at nearly every spot at a high level. Created both on and off the ball very well and showed some impressive athletic ability on both ends of the floor. He was a breakout player this weekend without question.
Highlights
Seth Laravia came in very familiar with Indiana State as his brother, Jake Laravia, is a former Sycamore. Seth, a 6’6 power forward, was one of the better versatile forwards at the camp this weekend. Scored mostly around the rim with a smooth touch but also hit a few jumpers as well, which is one of the better parts of his overall game. He uses his big frame very well and will get physical against the defense if needed. A big senior season is coming up for him.
Highlights
Cole Henry just continues to boost his stock more and more. At 6’6. he is almost everything you want in a modern day big as he can play the post and stretch the floor out to the wing at times. He has smoothness to his game while also playing extremely explosive on both ends of the floor as well. He put on a very good showing at the Indiana State camp and could be well on his way to getting those offers and seeing a jump in his recruitment.
While he may only be a 2026 prospect, Schlesky is starting to make a name for himself. At the Indiana State Elite Camp, he was scoring at all three levels and was especially good off the drives. Shot it well for the most part and from watching him, you just see a ton of potential in him being a high volume scorer at the next level. He is a strong, skilled guard that can create his own shot off of the dribble. He is a player to keep an eye on.
Luke Stoddard – 6’8 2024 PF – Don Bosco Prep
Stoddard is a 6’8 forward out of Don Bosco Prep who played with one of the better motors I saw over the weekend. He has a long frame and was so aggressive attacking the glass for the rebounds on both ends of the floor. Showed off a smooth jumper from time to time but does look his best scoring around the rim. Real tough player overall.
