A number of playoff contending teams for next season were in attendance as the high school summer season wrapped up this final weekend. Here’s a look at some of the top performers we watched:
TJ Latu TJ Latu 6'3" | CG Jefferson | 2024 State OR (2024 Jefferson)
Latu had everything in his bag going on Saturday. His lefty jumper from deep was sharp, his handle was tight, and spending some time at the point his court vision and ability to find guys open underneath for easy buckets was on target. When Latu gets downhill on the drive, he’s so difficult to contend with because of his physical size. Great day for the rising senior as he was a threat at multiple levels.
Dylan Westermeyer Dylan Westermeyer 6'6" | SF Oregon City | 2024 State OR (2024 Oregon City)
We all know that Westermeyer can shoot the ball, and the rising senior certainly sank his fair share of lefty jumpers. But what the lanky wing has been working on this summer is getting to the hoop and at camp, he did exactly that, using his length to finish over defenders in the lane while absorbing contact.
Deon Best Deon Best 6'0" | PG Oregon City | 2024 State OR (2024 Oregon City)
Now a senior, Best now has the knowledge on how to use his physical traits to overpower defenders getting to the basket and then finishing in creative ways. The point guard set the table on offense with his passing, finding the open man, and as always was tenacious on the defensive end using his quick hands and anticipation skills to generate turnovers.
Jaylen Hill Jaylen Hill 6'5" | PF De La Salle North | 2025 State OR (2025 De La Salle North)
From what we saw, Hill was the most dominating big man in camp and you could essentially call him “mini-Shaq” by the way he owned the paint. The rising junior was immovable on the block, and when he got the ball and went to work, he couldn’t be stopped unless he was hacked. If not for cramping up in DLSNC’s last game of the day, they might have finished the day undefeated.
Adrian Montague Adrian Montague 6'1" | PG Jefferson | 2026 State OR (2026 Jefferson)
It was only one game of action – he was playing on a slightly sprained ankle – but “Fuzzy” made it a good one in a win over Nelson. The rising sophomore was quick getting into the lane with his shifty moves, on target with his pull-up jumpers, and a pest on the defensive end. We overheard later on in the day that he made an impression on the Portland coaches in attendance.
Darius Andrews Darius Andrews 6'3" | PG Centennial | 2027 State OR (2027 Centennial)
We had heard his name in discussions about top players in the Class of 2027 from others but had yet to see him play – and color us duly impressed. The incoming freshman was super aggressive going to the basket, using his strong left hand to finish around the hoop through contact. He faced up and showed some range on his jumper as well. Assuming he heads to Centennial, the Eagles are getting a potential program changer.
