Continue ReadingWith the final live period of the summer coming up (besides the NCAA camps), we thought it would be a good time to take a look at some of the prospects who have seen their recruitment pick up the most. We will take a look at those prospects who have picked up division offers so far this summer, and a little about their game. Here’s a look at part one of the 2025 VA prospects who have new schools recruiting them this summer.
Nate Ament Nate Ament 6'8" | SF Highland | 2025 State #12 Nation VA | 6’8” F | Highland School
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #1
Spring/Summer Offers: College of Charleston, Creighton, VT, Wake Forest, St. Joe’s, Maryland, ODU, VCU, Iowa, Penn State, Illinois, George Washington, Providence
There aren’t many prospects in the 2025 class who have raised their stock more than Ament over the summer, who is now widely considered a national recruit with big time upside. At 6’8” he’s a walking mismatch with his ball skills on the perimeter, he can drill shots from deep, handle it in transition and he can use his size to finish and protect the rim too. He’s considered by many a top 40 prospect in the country and his stock should continue to rise over the next few years.
Kareem Stagg Kareem Stagg 6'8" | PF IMG | 2025 State #399 Nation FL | 6’8” PF | Oscar Smith
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #3
Spring/Summer Offers: VCU, Texas A&M, Maryland
Stagg has been on the radar since he was in the eighth grade, and this summer is where he really took off as he split time on Boo William’s 17U and 16U EYBL team and he has started to turn the corner with his game and production level. The 6’8” big man is an elite level athlete who plays above the rim with authority and is a big time shot blocker as well, he’s improved his midrange game and is starting to show range out to the three-point line and he has a great frame that is strong already and should continue to fill out moving forward. He’ll head into his junior season at just 16 years old, and his stock will only continue to rise as he continues to develop.
Austin Williford Austin Williford 6'4" | CG Saint Anne’s Belfield | 2025 State #137 Nation VA | 6’5” WF | STAB
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #4
Spring/Summer Offers: Albany, St. Joe’s, Mount St. Mary’s
Williford is still under the radar as far as recruitment goes in my opinion, and I expect him to be a big time breakout player his junior season as he’ll have a lot more freedom and a bigger role offensively with STAB graduating three starters from last year. Williford is possibly the best perimeter defender as he has long arms and is a big time athlete and he plays with a great motor that allows him to jump passing lanes and block shots, he can knock down shots from deep off the catch, he can create shots for himself and others off the bounce and he is a great on the offensive glass with put backs too. He should see his stock continue to rise as he puts up big numbers over this next season.
Chance Mallory Chance Mallory 5'10" | PG St. Anne's Belfield | 2025 State #73 Nation VA | 5’8” PG | STAB
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #5
Spring/Summer Offers: Maryland, VT, Seton Hall, UCF, West Virginia, VCU, Illinois, Butler, Iowa, UVA, Clemson
Mallory has seen his stock soar more than anyone in terms of the amount of offers he’s picked up, and it started after the first live period and continues to this day as he recently picked up UVA and Clemson over the past week. While he’s a smaller guard Mallory has all the tricks in the bag as he’s an excellent shooter with effortless range, he’s shifty off the bounce and finds teammates with every type of pass, he draws contact and is strong enough to finish through it, he’s a good defender and he’s a surprisingly good rebounder as well. He has the option of reclassifying up to the 2024 class if he chooses to, but regardless of the class he picks he’ll have plenty of options.
Jordan Scott Jordan Scott 6'7" | SG South Lakes | 2025 State #130 Nation VA | 6’6” SG | South Lakes
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #7
Spring/Summer Offers: Washington, Iowa, Illinois, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Cal, Maryland, Texas A&M, VT, Michigan State, Georgetown, George Washington
Another prospect who has seen his recruitment sky rocket, Scott has played exceptionally well on the VA Elite 16U team that has been very good on the UAA Rise Circuit this year. He started picking up offers in April when they were in the midwest and the Big 10 schools started rolling in as he put up big numbers with his ability to shoot the ball from deep, put it on the deck and use his size to finish around the rim, he put up big numbers on the glass and as a rim protector and he’s shown to be an unselfish playmaker with a high IQ. With his mix of size, athleticism and skillset he will continue to impress coaches as he puts up more and more big numbers.
Ashton Walker Ashton Walker 6'5" | PG Catholic | 2025 State #172 Nation VA | 6’4” PG | Catholic
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #8
Spring/Summer Offers: College of Charleston
Walker has had a great summer so far playing with Team Loaded NC and Boo Williams in different spurts, and while he is still underrated and pretty unknown theres no doubt that he’ll be heavily recruited when it’s all said and done. Walker grew about 5 inches over the past year or so and now owns great size at the point guard position, he has tremendous feel and playmaking ability with the ball in his hands, he sets the tone on both ends of the floor and he’s a natural leader who runs the team. As he has more time to showcase his skillset and continue to improve his scoring ability he’ll see a lot more schools come to offer him.
Silas Barksdale Silas Barksdale 6'7" | PF Woodside | 2025 State #176 Nation VA | 6’8” PF | Woodside
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #9
Spring/Summer Offers: VT, Mississippi State, VCU, Seton Hall, Illinois,Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Maryland
Barksdale got off to a hot start this spring as he balled out on the Boo Williams 16U team picking up the majority of his offers in April, and he played so well that he was pulled up to the 17U EYBL team. Barksdale has long arms and is a good athlete who gets up and down the floor and is able to play above the rim, he plays with a great motor as he is a very good rebounder and he has good post work with soft touch and good footwork in the paint as well. He’s still young for his grade and will likely continue to fill out and develop, meaning he’ll have more high major schools coming to recruit him over the next few years.
Jaquan Womack Jaquan Womack 6'7" | PF Paul VI | 2025 State #284 Nation VA | 6’7” PF | Paul VI
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #11
Spring/Summer Offers: George Washington
Womack may get overshadowed on a nationally ranked PVI team that has double digit division one recruits on them, but he’s one of them and GW was smart enough to see it and give him an offer in June. The 6’7” forward is the new age four man who is strong and mobile with the ability to run the floor and clear out space in the paint to finish, he’s a walking mismatch with his ball skills and shooting on the perimeter, he is a good rebounder, he shows good toughness and he’s a versatile defender as well. He’ll have more opportunities to show his versatility on both ends the floor and pick up more offers moving forward.
