As we approach the opening of the NCAA’s first Division I live period in July, it’s worth breaking down some of the squads headed into it from North Carolina. From powerhouses like Team CP3 playing at Peach Jam, to other local or regional programs competing at the Phenom and Big Shots events, North Carolina’s AAU programs are fielding a ton of college level talent for coaches to observe. Read along for some teams and players that will be on my must see list.
NC Spartans 17U Liles
Herb Liles has put together a big time team of Triad area prospects, with his players getting looks at schools across all levels. They’ll be competing at HoopGroup for the first live weekend, and headed back to Phenom’s Hardwood Classic the second.
Cooper Jackson Cooper Jackson 6'7" | PF Reagan | 2024 State NC – Uber-physical forward that plays harder than anyone. Rebounds and defends bigs well. Offensive game improving with his back to the basket.
John Campbell John Campbell 6'4" | CG Bishop Mcguinness | 2024 State NC – High-energy leaper that has lots of length. Offensive game consists of lots of drives and finishes in the paint. Defensive presence especially off the ball.
Cal Barrett Cal Barrett 6'8" | SF Moravian Prep | 2025 NC – Toolsy 6’9 forward that can play as a wing. Growing into a real floor spacer and wreaks havoc with his length on defense. Really dangerous out of ball screens.
Camden Edmonds Camden Edmonds 6'5" | CG West Stokes | 2024 State NC – Certified bucket getter. Gets to his spots without trouble and knocks down shots all over the floor.
Scottie Yaudes – Guy who fits this group really well as a scorer and energy guy. Nice looking shot but can also attack the basket as well. Leader and top guy at the HS level but fits really well as part of a team here.
Big Shots Elite NC 2025
Whit Holcombe-Faye’s group of underclassmen are extremely talented and have a lot of names coaches need to get out and see for their future recruiting classes. Lots of impressive guards highlight this group, with them competing at Big Shots events both live period weeks.
Dane Cassada Dane Cassada 6'3" | CG Calvary Day School | 2026 State NC – Composed, ultimate floor general which is unbelievable since he’s a rising sophomore. Fluid scorer and shooter but unbelievable how well he sees the floor and defense.
Darnerian Gibson Darnerian Gibson 5'10" | PG Winston-Salem Christian Regional | 2025 State NC – Smaller guard but really is a nightmare on defense. Up in your jersey, active hands, quick feet. Distributes and spaces well on offense.
Shamarius Peterkin Shamarius Peterkin 6'3" | CG Mount Tabor | 2025 State NC – Hyper athletic slasher that is impossible to stop when he has open space to work with. Jumper getting better as well. Two sport athlete and will be interesting to see which he chooses.
BSA Supreme
Coach David Broome has something almost any grassroots program can claim right now; an undefeated record. Highlighted by the Daniel twins, this group is team-first, balanced, and ripe with players headed to the next level. They should be at both Phenom events for the live period.
Carson Daniel Carson Daniel 6'1" | PG Central Cabarrus | 2024 State NC – Him and Chase are similar players. Facilitators and game managers that can score the ball if asked. Very flexible and do whatever is asked of them. Solid defensively as well.
Chase Daniel Chase Daniel 6'1" | PG Central Cabarrus | 2024 State NC – Slightly better defender than Carson, more of a scorer and less of a passer in my opinion. The two are both impressive lead guards that do everything.
Desmond Kent Jr Desmond Kent Jr 6'5" | SF Central Cabarrus | 2024 State NC . – Long, thin wing that has real defensive upside and offensive ability. Developing from dunk everything guy, adding range to 17 feet. Runs the floor very well.
Peter Moye Peter Moye 6'3" | SG South Mecklenburg | 2024 State NC – Physical driver and scorer that isn’t afraid of contact. Makes a living in the mid-range and at the rim. Gets to the line at a high clip.
Tyler Showalter Tyler Showalter 6'6" | SF Butler | 2024 State NC – Lefty that has size at 6’6. Destined to be a 3 and D wing at the next level with the way he can shoot it. Defensively solid but improving. Will be interested to watch him score more off the bounce.
