A powerful wing who uses his strength and physicality to bully his way to the rim routinely for buckets, Brown had a big game in the Bulldogs’ win over Indianola, finishing with 20 points on efficient shooting. He handles it well and finishes really well through contact around the bucket. He doesn’t shoot it from deep very often, but he has good form on his jumper and it looks like he could add some range to his game.
2024 SF Jonovan Wilkinson Jonovan Wilkinson 6'2" | SF Roland-Story | 2024 State IA (Roland-Story)
Wilkinson has been armed with one of the best mid-range games in the state for the last few years, but he showcased increased confidence in his 3-point stroke throughout the weekend, which was apparent in the Norsemen win over Xavier on Friday night, when he knocked down four 3-pointers in the first half en route to 29 points. Following a number of key graduations for the Norse, Wilkinson will need to be a more aggressive scoring threat this winter, and he absolutely was here. His aforementioned mid-range game, which is certainly his bread and butter, is still the go-to weapon in his arsenal, but the increased range will be a great added bonus.
2026 PG Lorenzo Pino Lorenzo Pino 5'11" | SG Cedar Rapids Xavier | 2026 State IA (Xavier)
Following Joe Bean’s transfer down the street to Kennedy, Xavier has a gaping hole in the backcourt to fill, and maybe it will be Pino stepping into a significant role for the Saints. A talented 5-11/6-0 guard with good handles, court vision, and the ability to shoot it off the dribble or the catch, Pino had an up-and-down game in their loss to Roland-Story, but showed some really good flashes of his potential on both ends of the floor. He gets the ball into his shooting pocket quickly off the bounce and has extended range. He also does a good job changing speeds and using that plus his handles to get by defenders and into the teeth of the defense, where he can either finish at the rim or find an open teammate.
2026 C Marach Dau Marach Dau 6'5" | C Ames | 2026 State IA (Ames)
A raw, mobile 6-6/6-7 big man, Dau still has a long way to go in his development, both physically and in his skillset, but he had a pretty good weekend for the Little Cyclones on both ends of the floor. He’s a switchable defender with a tremendous blend of size, length, and athleticism that he uses to protect the rim defensively. He controls the glass on both ends of the floor and does a good job keeping the ball high on post touches and after pulling down rebounds. He finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and a handful of blocks in their loss to Winterset.
2024 SF Hayden Wilmes Hayden Wilmes 6'0" | SG Winterset | 2024 State IA (Winterset)
Wilmes may be on his way to establishing himself as one of the best pure shooters in the state following his performance throughout the weekend. In the Huskies’ win over Ames, he buried four 3-pointers, scoring 16 points, to go with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. A 6-2/6-3 sharpshooter with a quick release, he moves well without the ball in his hands, gets the ball into his shooting pocket quickly off the catch, and has unlimited range.
2025 PG Hank Wilmes Hank Wilmes 5'9" | PG Winterset | 2025 State IA (Winterset)
The younger Wilmes brother is built a little differently than his twin brothers, but he’s just as effective on both ends of the floor. He’s a small, compact lead guard with great strength and quickness. The Huskies’ standout running back on the gridiron, it’s easy to see how he excels in that role when watching him play basketball. He changes directions in the blink of an eye, has great vision, and loves contact. He’s a versatile three-level scorer, strong on-ball defender, and great passer with a good feel for the game. He had 14 points and 4 assists in their win over Ames.
2025 SG Sean Tunks Sean Tunks 6'1" | SG Des Moines Christian | 2025 State IA (Des Moines Christian)
The Lions have another good wing scorer coming through in the form of Tunks, a strong 6-1/6-2 combo guard who can create for himself and his teammates. He showed great body control around the rim, finishing around and through contact on multiple occasions. He’s a good athlete who loves to compete on the glass on both ends of the floor, but particularly hard on the offensive end, and he showed good timing and instincts defensively, rotating well and picking the right spots to jump a passing lane and turn defense into offense. He plays really hard, even when his team was up big late in games, getting on the floor for loose balls and pounding the glass. In their win over Centennial on Friday night, he finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, plus a handful of steals.
