In a tough matchup with Brookfield Central that went down to the wire, Joey was just on another level. The 2024 point guard has been a proven facilitator over the spring, but lit up the scoreboard in this particular game. Going off for 39 points, LaChapell rattled in three after three, mixing in some makes off the dribble with some off the catch. Was able to create separation off the bounce, and also found success relocating into space after passing the ball. Showcased college shooting range, but also showed he’s tough as nails driving to the hoop and scoring through contact. That included the go ahead finish at the rim with under a minute to play to help his team come away with the win.
Henry embraced the challenge of going up against one of the elite shooting guards in the country in Kon Knueppel. While Kon still got his, Henry wasn’t giving up an easy looks and made him work for every bucket. At 6’3 he’s a good athlete moving laterally, and has an explosive burst around the rim. Found success creating his own shots off the dribble as he can cover a lot of ground with a single stride, and elevate off the floor for his pull-up jumpers. Rebounds the ball well as a guard too.
Now at Milwaukee Academy of Science, Deuce is a big time floor stretcher. He showcased his deep range in a big win over Oconto, not only putting points on the board for his team, but also stretching out the opposing defense to create driving lanes for his explosive teammates. A potential zone buster, Deuce has range well beyond the high school arc, with a quick release off both the catch and dribble. Really liked how scrappy he was defending as well. Was relentless pressuring the ball, and wasn’t going to be beat to the floor if the ball came loose. Promising to see that type of effort and grit from a such a talented young prospect.
Highlights
Nothing flashy about Kon’s game, he just has the fundamentals down at such a high level, and because of that he’s one of the most efficient players in the country. You just don’t see many guards/wings who can post up like Kon does. He’s so comfortable creating with his back to the basket, able to work his way down for a hook shot, or pivot one way and hit a turnaround jumper the opposite way. Such good footwork to get guys in the air and step through for an easy bucket. Still showed the signature three point shot as well, making defenders pay for giving him too much space. Everyone in the gym knows he can put up points with ease, so opposing defenses are going to give him everything they have. Despite that he calmly delivers bucket after bucket.
Highlights
Eli provides a physical presence inside for River Falls. Having just finished his sophomore year, he already has a strong frame at 6’6. Moves well at his size to contest shots, and does a nice job of walling up to avoid fouling. Strong rebounder who looks the part of a constant double-double threat with his ability to pull in missed shots in bulk. Dangerous out of the pick & roll with his mobility rolling to the basket and coordination to catch and finish on the move at 6’6.
Jack put up some big scoring numbers against Appleton East, but it was his passing that really impressed me. At around 6’8 he plays out on the perimeter a lot where he sees the floor so well. Had a lot of success just zipping in passes over the top of the defense into his cutting teammates. Placed his passes right in their hands leading them perfectly to the rim. When posting up he does a nice job of sealing his man to provide an easy angle for entry passes. Showed his shooting touch from beyond the arc while also taking his man off the dribble from the perimeter occasionally. Despite getting swarmed by smaller players, he made the most of his post touches and put in an efficient performance.
One of the top juniors in the state, there’s not much defenders can do when Jamarion gets going. He’s one of those players who will just lull the defense to sleep, and then go on a run scoring 8-9 points in a two minute stretch. Dangerous shot creator with some length, and a smooth release from beyond the arc. Continues to evolve into a three level scoring threat mixing in some mid-range jumpers with crafty finishes at the rim. Doesn’t really matter who he’s playing with or who he’s going up against, Batemon is going to put points on the board and give his team a chance to win.
