Continue ReadingSaturday at the IBCA/IHSAA Charlie Hughes Showcase is a very, very long day. However, there aren’t many better ways to spend a day than watching Indiana High School Basketball for over 12 straight hours. With boots on the ground at Carmel High School from tip-off to the final buzzer there is plenty to unpack from the 10 rounds of games. Let’s dive on in and empty out the notebook from all of Saturday’s action.
Future is Bright at Plainfield
Small college programs across the state of Indiana and the Midwest are very interested in 5’10” rising senior guard Eli Ellis Eli Ellis 5'11" | SG Plainfield | 2024 State IN and 6’6″ rising senior forward Collin Schmidt. Both of those prospects have been solid for the Quakers this weekend. However, it was the younger guys who really stood out on Saturday morning in a win over Chesterton. 6’6″ rising sophomore wing Noah Smith Noah Smith 6'7" | SF Plainfield | 2026 State IN has proven to be one of the state’s best Class of 2026 prospects. His versatility and fluid athleticism really stand out for his size at a young age. Incoming freshman Harper Baker-Lands Harper Baker-Lands 6'2" | SG Plainfield | 2027 State IN is another name to remember. He is a 6’2″ ball handler that plays through contact, doesn’t get sped up, and finishes well at the end of his drives. Really impressive poise for a player who has yet to compete in a high school game. Trey Barton Trey Barton 5'7" | PG Plainfield | 2026 State IN and Landon Gilliatt Landon Gilliatt 6'0" | PG Plainfield | 2026 State IN are two more Quakers to know in that Class of 2026.
Scottsburg “Big 3” Takes Down Carmel
The Warriors are playing a bit short-handed with only six players dressed this weekend at the Charlie Hughes Showcase, but it didn’t stop them from beating Carmel 54-51 on Saturday morning. 6’5″ rising senior guard Jack Miller Jack Miller 6'5" | SG Scottsburg | 2024 State IN was excellent for Scottsburg using his size and athletic ability to score it in the mid-range. He does a great job of turning his drive into post moves and hitting the little pull-up jumper. When he plays off of two feet in the paint it is hard to handle. Meanwhile, 6’3″ rising senior point guard Koby Clancy set the table for his teammates with excellent court vision and passing ability. He is a high-IQ lead guard that consistently made the right play. 6’8″ rising senior forward Wyatt Zellers certainly turned some heads of those in attendance as well with a couple of tough catch-and-shoot 3’s. The tall left is a really intriguing prospect.
Trent Sisley Trent Sisley 6'8" | PF Heritage Hills | 2025 State #47 Nation IN vs. Dezhon Hall Dezhon Hall 6'3" | PG Pike | 2026 State IN Lives Up to the Hype
Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo and several others were in attendance for this one featuring one of Indiana’s top Class of 2025 prospects against one of Indiana’s top Class of 2026 prospects. Tindley got the better of the team matchup as they came away victorious, but 6’8″ 4-star forward Trent Sisley Trent Sisley 6'8" | PF Heritage Hills | 2025 State #47 Nation IN was excellent in the loss scoring a game-high 40 points for Heritage Hills. He is just so skilled at his size scoring with a variety of perimeter shots, interior finishes, and everything in between. As for Dezhon Hall Dezhon Hall 6'3" | PG Pike | 2026 State IN , the dynamic left-handed guard scored 31 points for Tindley while consistently getting to the rim off of the bounce.
Brownsburg Outlasts Fort Wayne Wayne
If this game would have been just a couple of minutes longer the Generals might have been able to complete the comeback and steal a victory. However, Brownsburg held on for a 63-60 win despite a furious fourth quarter flurry from Wayne rising senior point guard Jevon Lewis. The 5’9″ lefty scored 11 of his game-high 28 points in the final period, including a late 4-point play, but it wasn’t enough for the Generals. For Brownsburg, Purdue commit Kanon Catchings Kanon Catchings 6'8" | PF Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #31 Nation GA and Grant Porath each scored 18 points to lead the Bulldogs to the win. Both of these teams advanced to Semi-State last season and will be Top 10 in Class 4A when the preseason polls come around.
Fishers is the Best Team in the State
We actually had this a week or so ago at Prep Hoops Indiana as we ranked Fishers #1 in our Way Too Early Class 4A Rankings. However, the Tigers should have removed any double this weekend at the Charlie Hughes Showcase. On Saturday they dominated Crown Point in the morning and then dominated Jeffersonville in the afternoon. Jalen Haralson Jalen Haralson 6'7" | PG La Lumiere | 2025 #8 Nation IN had a stretch where he dominated with pull-up jump shots in the early second half against the Red Devils. Keenan Garner Keenan Garner 6'6" | PF Fishers | 2024 State IN started the game off with a top of the key three-pointer and a transition dunk. Taden Metzger knocked in a three anytime it was kicked to him. Finally, incoming freshman Cooper Zachary Cooper Zachary 5'9" | PG Fishers | 2027 State IN dazzled with his ball handling and playmaking ability. It is only June 24th, but this group looks like a well-oiled machine.
Quick Hitters
- Cole Hayworth Cole Hayworth 6'5" | SF Concordia Lutheran | 2024 State IN (Concordia Lutheran 2024) was excellent in a hard fought 61-58 overtime win against Pike early on Saturday morning. The 6’5″ left-handed forward scored 30 points for the Cadets in front of several DII/DIII/NAIA coaches. He has all of the physical and athletic tools you could ask for in a wing/forward at those levels. Hayworth knocked in a couple of good looking three-point shots as well. Catch-and-shoot 3’s, driving to finish with his left hand, and rebounding at a high level. This prospect does a little bit of everything.
- Steven Reynolds III Steven Reynolds III 6'5" | SG South Bend Washington | 2026 State IN (South Bend Washington H.S. 2026) is a really special prospect. There aren’t many rising sophomores that process the game as well as he does. You hear a lot about the game “happening fast” for some prospects, well, the game happens slowly for Reynolds. He is an elite passer with excellent vision while having all of the scoring chops you could ask for as well.
- Tre Singleton Tre Singleton 6'7" | PF Jeffersonville | 2025 State #225 Nation IN (Jeffersonville H.S. 2025) was a bright spot for the Red Devils in their loss to Fishers on Saturday afternoon. The 6’8″ forward has good feet in the post, flashes some passing ability, and isn’t afraid to take on contact inside. Mid-major programs in search of a versatile 4-man should be recruiting Singleton.
