I’m incredibly excited to get back to watching basketball in person over the live period, and I will be in attendance this weekend at the Phenom Hoops Live event in Raleigh. Check out some of the players and teams I’m most excited to watch below.
NC Spartans Liles vs. Team Push NC NC 2024
Team Push NC has had a very strong live period so far, and their opening matchup against NC Spartans Liles provides a lot of intrigue. Amari Latham Amari Latham 6'5" | PF Goldsboro | 2024 State NC is the name to know for Team Push NC , after a huge weekend where he showed he was one of the most dominant scorers on the Phenom circuit. 6’0 Brooks Allred is a steady backcourt presence that will help 6’6 Jakel Powell Jakel Powell 6'5" | SF Raleigh Christian Academy | 2024 NC is going to be an unsigned senior wing that attracts college interest as well. On the other hand, Liles has some great prospects on his team, like 6’9 W/F Cal Barrett Cal Barrett 6'8" | SF Moravian Prep | 2025 NC , a long springy stretch big, and 6’7 F Cooper Jackson Cooper Jackson 6'7" | PF Reagan | 2024 State NC , who is one of the most physical guys I’ve seen in his class so far, roaming the paint. 6’5 guard Camden Edmonds Camden Edmonds 6'5" | CG West Stokes | 2024 State NC also had an incredible weekend in Spartanburg, averaging over 25 PPG and showing his ability to fill it up. This will be one of the best games of the morning, and I’m excited to catch it in the gym this weekend.
BSA Supreme vs. Team Trezz Edwards
Later on after our first featured matchup will be another great run between BSA Supreme and Team Trezz Edwards. Carson Daniel Carson Daniel 6'1" | PG Central Cabarrus | 2024 State NC and Chase Daniel Chase Daniel 6'1" | PG Central Cabarrus | 2024 State NC have been instrumental in BSA’s success so far as expected, but there have been other names that were good in high school that have jumped off the page as well. Peter Moye Peter Moye 6'3" | SG South Mecklenburg | 2024 State NC is a natural born scorer that will play on the wing, and Tyler Showalter Tyler Showalter 6'6" | SF Butler | 2024 State NC hits big time threes when his team needs it. Critical to BSA’s development will be the emergence of Desmond Kent Jr Desmond Kent Jr 6'5" | SF Central Cabarrus | 2024 State NC ., a long, thin undersized big that has elite explosiveness. For Team Trezz , the backcourt mates of Tyler Barnes and Jordan Vick Jordan Vick 5'11" | PG Word of God | 2025 State NC will pour it in all weekend, as they both are so quick and shifty that getting to their spots looks easy. David Ellis II David Ellis II 6'8" | C Wilson Prep | 2024 State NC is the team’s big, and his verticality and physicality will make him a tough cover on the glass and above the rim. Randall King Randall King 6'2" | CG Northern Nash | 2024 State NC and Nik Edwards will also become important pieces as guard options with their leadership and production as well. This should be another great matchup like it was last year.
Strong Center 2024 Cary/HS vs. Carolina Riptide 2024
This might be a more underrated matchup than the other two listed, but I’m a big fan of what both of these squads bring to the table. Strong Center has some good Wake County talent in guys like point guard Tye Cain and bigs Logan Ware Logan Ware 6'7" | PF Panther Creek | 2024 State NC and Obata Okafor. For Carolina Riptide , I’ve been most impressed with big wing Jackson Fannon Jackson Fannon 6'7" | PF East Lincoln | 2025 State NC when I’ve watched them play, but guys like Ty Sanders Ty Sanders 6'3" | SG North Lincoln | 2025 State NC and Ben Cipriano will also bring scoring pop and size to the table. I love how Carolina Riptide has put together a good group of size and skill, but I think Strong Center will bring some physicality and intensity that causes this to become a tough battle. We will see how it goes this weekend, but I think this is an underrated matchup to keep an eye on.
