Expert Analysis
Andrew Baxley | Prep Hoops Scout
Amari had a couple of big games this weekend playing with Strictly Ballas Elite in Bermuda Run. He simply has a knack for finding the ball and putting it in the basket. Latham was frequently the first to loose balls on both ends of the floor and used his strong frame to punish defenders around the rim. He has great feet which he uses to score in the paint, but he can also step outside to hit a perimeter shot with a fundamentally beautiful stroke. Amari went for 20 Points, 7 Rebounds, and 3 Steals in a win over Big Shots SC Premier on Saturday.

Plenty to like about what he can potentially on the next level due to his height, wingspan, skill and athletic ability. He scored the ball from multiple levels, made plays above the rim, defended guards and bigs while helping his team win the camp championship. Another player that will most likely take the JUCO route, colleges should be giving him a call sooner than later.

Averaging just under 20 Points and 10 rebounds for the season, he uses his height, wingspan and athletic ability to be very productive. He can create some issues in various matchups and his physical tools make him a very intriguing prospect to colleges.

Latham got off to a rough start but he got things going in the second half. He finished with 12 of his 17 points in the second half as he tried to get the Cougars going in the late stages but things just couldn’t seem to go their way. He remains a prospect for DII and JUCO programs to keep an eye as he continues to develop his all-around game.

Latham was a key cog in Goldsboro’s 2-0 weekend, highlighted with a 29 point, 5 rebound, 6 steal performance against St. Paul’s on Friday night. He’s an athletic wing/forward combo that has a super high motor and plays with intensity inside. He has showed more and more range on his jumper in the last few months, and we saw that on display on Friday. Really has an ability to get disruption in passing lanes and in gaps too, while still being a quality rebounder.

Latham is a versatile forward prospect to get to know at Goldsboro High in NC’s 2024 class. He’s a double-double machine in the making given his ability to attack off the bounce and be a presence on the offensive glass when the ball isn’t in his hands. He’s an emerging forward/wing prospect for DII programs in the region to get to know. He finished with 18.8 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 2.5 SPG and 2.1 APG as a junior in 2022-23. After playing alongside an East Carolina signee this past season, he’s set to do his own damage with the Cougars heading into his final season as their lead option.

With the departure of the majority of the team’s starting lineup and contributors, his team is in somewhat of a rebuild mode, but he showed some flashes of how good he can be. He’s an athletic Forward with a long wingspan that seems to do his best work when he’s able to get out into transition to make plays.

Finished second overall in scoring, averaging just under 20 Points per contest, which included a 27 Point performance in their first-round matchup. He understands how to use his height, length and athleticism to make plays above the rim and didn’t settle for outside shots too often.

Latham is one of those guys who is really position-less, but in my book I would call him a good-sized wing prospect. He runs the floor very hard in transition, both pushing the ball himself and with others leading the break. Mainly looking to finish at the rim in both aspects of gameplay, but he’s shown the ability to take guys off the dribble a little bit over the course of the weekend. I still like him as an active, undersized forward/wing that gets you early baskets in transition and is dangerous getting to the rim when he has a free lane. Defensively his motor translates, blocking shots as a help-side rim protector and cleaning the glass. He should continue to have an impressive summer following up his live periods performance.

was quite the second option for the Goldsboro Cougars in their run to the NCHSAA 2A Region Finals. He moves from 77th into the 53rd spot in the latest 2024 rankings update after proving himself as a force on the rebounding and finishing front for the Cougars in 2022-23. He finished second on the squad in scoring (18.8 ppg) and rebounds (8.4 rpg) along with 2.1 apg and 2.5 spg keeping pace behind East Carolina commit

. He’s a slowly becoming an imposing force around the painted area and showed he could knock down shots on the perimeter when needed, shooting 9-of-20 (45 percent) from 3-point land on the season. He’ll look to step up in a big way for Goldsboro High in 2023-24 as he takes over as the main option. He’s listed at just 6-foot-5 but plays a lot bigger than his size given his athleticism, wingspan, and energy. He’ll be one to keep an eye out for this grassroots season.
