If this were NBA 2k, David Ellis would be an Interior Paint Beast. That is the best way to describe his game. Offensively, he has the ability to finish through contact with authority. Defensively, he cleans the glass and is one of the best rebounders in the state. College coaches looking for a paint presence should look no further.

did his part to anchor the defense and rebound the ball as he finished with a double-double before fouling out with a few minutes to go in regulation. He’s playing a much calmer brand of basketball while maintaining his ability to finish above the rim and alter shots.

is due to make waves in 2023-24 following a strong performance in last year’s state title game. He played like a man possessed, showcasing his two-way abilities in the painted area with 14 points, 19 rebounds, five blocks, two assists and two steals on 6-for-7 shooting from the field in their NCHSAA State Title game. Voorhees College is the latest school to offer him as he heads into a big senior season with Wilson Prep. DII and DIII programs would be wise to get eyes on him this season.

took a huge step forward in his junior campaign with the Wilson Prep Tigers in their quest to a NCHSAA 1A State crown. He showed his dominance around the rim on both ends of the floor, showing he can sacrifice his versatility on offense to be a terror around the rim defensively. He finished with 14 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks in their victory over Eastern Randolph High in the final, well above his season averages of 8.2 ppg, 10.7 rpg and 1.5 bpg. He’s a prospect that’s coming into his own in the 2024 class as he moves from No. 88 to the 15th spot in the latest rankings update. He’s a forward that uses his length well on both ends of the floor to make his presence felt and proved to be a terror in the frontcourt against opponents all the way up to their championship victory.

Ellis battled Brooks all day on Saturday, and both of them ended all square in the rebounding war, with Ellis also bringing down 19 rebounds, 9 of them offensive. Those, combined with his 14 points on 6-7 shooting made him an important piece in stopping Brooks and Eastern Randolph on Saturday. He used his 6’8 frame to jump higher than other players and meet the ball at its peak, getting his team second chance opportunities. Defensively, that frame was used to protect the rim, as he registered 4 blocks and helped either alter other shots or even cause them to not be taken. Eastern Randolph did not finish well at the rim, and a lot of that was due to Ellis’ presence. He got buckets on offense mostly around the rim and that side of his game is still developing, but his athleticism and bounce will help to continue to improve on that end.

The Guard play for Wilson Prep has carried a high amount of the load for the Tigers this season but don’t be surprised to see some contributions from the big man on Saturday. He has legit size at about 6’7 and makes play inside the paint on both ends of the floor by using his height and strength.

His stats may not impress you, but he impacts the game in numerous other ways that simply cannot be measured by statistics. He’s a 6’8 big man that embraces playing in the paint and doesn’t hesitate to use his frame to make plays. Setting strong screens, boxing out, battling for rebounds and attacking the rim were all things we saw from him.
