Continue ReadingThe Waukee Jam 16U team is loaded with a lot of talent on their roster from top to bottom. They have every position covered, while running deep at the guard position specifically. This is going to help them keep up their energy throughout ball-games and really let them set the pace of the overall game-play against their opponents. I haven’t had a chance to see this group compete this spring just yet but if they can mesh together well to start, then they are going to be a tough team to go beat throughout the longevity of a game, as they are loaded with weapons on both sides of the floor.
You can find this group out at any of the tournaments listed below!

Roster
Interesting prospect all around. Has a nice shooting stroke accompanied with good balance when given time to set himself and let it fly. Lengthy with a nice touch on the ball near the basket. Working on his overall game but is coming along at a steady and consistent rate. Defensively is a scrappy player who isn’t afraid of being physical. If he keeps putting in the work he currently is, he will be making strides as a player going into his sophomore year of high school ball this winter at Winterset. Player with a fairly high ceiling to his overall game.

Ryley Johnson
Ryley Johnson
Lengthy power forward with some athletic ability. Holds his own on offense with a lot of room to grow. Really shows up on the defensive side of the ball for his teams. This will again be the case this AAU season as he is one of the tallest on their roster. He has good timing on blocking shots while still being able to alter them, if he doesn’t get a block. Rebounds well and has a nicely timed second jump incase the first doesn’t work out. Interested how he will continue to expand his game, if he stays working on his guard-skill set with his height, he will be a problem the next two years on the floor.
Nicely sized shooting guard with ability to dribble past his defender with a plethora of skill moves. The definition of a three level scorer. He can shoot in from the outside, get to a mid-range spot, or get all the way to the basket where he possesses a nice lay-up package. Type of player to consistently lead a good team in scoring. From watching tape it seems to me that once he gets it to click just a little bit more all-together, he is going to be almost impossible to guard, especially in the open court while going down hill as he looks to make something happen.

Charlie Matt
Charlie Matt
Charlie Matt is the definition of a go-getter. He works tremendously hard on the court and it showed each and every play. He is always the first one on the floor for a loose ball or doing some other intangible thing to try and help his team win. His rebounding ability stands out at the guard position. He has an act for knowing where the ball is going to come off of the rim and going to get it. This is another really solid guard for the Waukee Jam 16U team. A player who is going to come in, do what the coaches asks of him, play his role, and contribute on both sides of the floor in which ever way he can.

A quick guard who has a really nice shooting stroke from behind the three point line. He knows how to pass to the post and relocate for an open three on a regular basis. Has a really nice first step quick-ness going from Point A to Point B when moving down the floor. I labeled him as a combo guard because he isn’t naturally a PG or SG in my eyes but more of a mix. In general, he would lean more toward a PG spot in reality in most programs and I don’t think that is any different here. He has high basketball IQ on both ends of the floor. It is seen just in watching him shoot the ball live in games, with how he processes what is going on. This is a player who can lead this team from the front, whenever the ball is in his hands.

Another Wilmes brother in the Waukee Jam family only means one thing. Another baller! More of a traditional point guard with an all around fundamental and solid game. Controls pace and tempo to a T while never seeming to be in a rush while on offense. Is very good about getting other players involved and moving off of the ball once it is out of his hands. All around multi-sport athlete with really solid athleticism as a whole. At the point guard position he plays physical, which is exactly what you need to stand out in the state of Iowa at that spot. Could be a big time name down the road, keep on eye on that Winterset team come this winter.
Quinn Bailey
Quinn Bailey
The man in the middle. A 6’4/5 power forward who has nice touch, footwork, and skill-moves near the rim. He has the ability to bring the ball out and shoot it from the midrange or from three when the defense plays off of him. He is very good at getting to his spots on the floor where he is most comfortable offensively. Displays a nice passing ability to players cutting toward the hoop or into the middle of the lane. Also very good at passing out of a double team, in the post, to an open teammate. Type of player who could average 17 & 10 for this Waukee Jam 16U team on a consistent basis this spring/summer, no doubt in my mind.

Fast-thinking guard who keeps his composure in the biggest moments. Does a fantastic job of keeping his eyes up while pushing the ball down the floor so that he knows what his best option of attack is. Defensively is a work-horse. He is a player that doesn’t seem to ever get tired while being a pest-y defender in the full court to an alike player. Overall, a well-rounded prospect who is dedicated to the game and understands how to play it the right way. He is a positive and impactful player that will help this Waukee Jam 16U team to a lot of success this spring/summer while they travel the mid-west.
