Continue ReadingThe end of the high school season is the best time to throw a fresh update on class rankings and our latest 2024 update went live on Monday. We added 40 new players to the mix, upping the total ranked prospects from 85 to 125. In this piece we take a closer look at the biggest stock risers.
Cameron McNamee Cameron McNamee 6'6" | SG Santa Margarita | 2024 State CA-S , Santa Margarita, Previous Rank: 27, New Rank: 23
It wasn’t a huge bump up for McNamee but it was a bump nonetheless. The 6-foot-5 wing is one of the best catch and shooters in SoCal and his improvements as a pull-up jump shooter off the bounce is what made us give him the four-spot rise. McNamee has a chance to even further raise his stock on the club circuit this spring and summer.
Brycen Mackenzie, Santa Fe Christian, Previous Rank: 40, New Rank: 24
Mackenzie was the signal caller for one of the more potent offensive teams in all of San Diego. The 6-foot-1 point guard was tasked with pushing the pace for the Eagles all while making sure to take care of the basketball, find open shooters and do some scoring himself when needed. Mackenzie is a heady decision-maker and showed that he can get downhill and to the rim for acrobatic or physical finishes at the rim.
Bishop Brooks Bishop Brooks 6'4" | SF Taft | 2024 State CA-S , Taft, Previous Rank: 71, New Rank: 34
Brooks rise was the largest of all and that’s because he was a key piece to Taft’s run to a LA City Section Open Division championship. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard averaged 14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game while leading the Toreadors to a 21-win season. Brooks is not only a knock-down catch-and-shooter from three-point range, but he can also put the ball on the deck and score on physical straight-line drives to the basket.
Jael Martin Jael Martin 6'9" | PF Carlsbad | 2024 State CA-S , Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica: Previous Rank: 44, New rank: 36
Martin earned some notoriety last spring and summer playing on the club circuit with Los Angeles Elite and carried that momentum into a strong junior season for the Seawolves. The rangy and athletic 6-foot-8 forward put up impressive numbers at 16.1 points, seven rebounds and just under two blocks per game while powering Pacifica Christian/SM to 28 wins, a league title and appearances in the CIF Southern Section Division 4A semifinals and to the State SoCal Regional Final where they fell to eventual champion, Lynwood.
Devin Ringer Devin Ringer 6'2" | SG Redondo Union | 2024 State CA-S , Redondo Union, Previous Rank: 53, New Rank: 40
One thing about Ringer has always been clear: his ability to shoot the basketball off the catch and off the bounce was his biggest strength. Due to his size and projected position at the next level, we thought it was important for him to start to flesh out his point guard skill-set and he did just that with the Sea Hawks. The 6-foot-1 guard took the reins of the Redondo offense and ran it well while also finding time to show the purity of his jumper.
