Jael Martin Jael Martin 6'9" | PF Carlsbad | 2024 State CA-S showed off his plus athleticism today in Carlsbad’s wins over ThunderRidge and Dublin. Martin hits the glass hard at both ends, contests and alters any shots remotely near him, and is able to be versatile defensively thanks to his quick feet. Jael spaces the floor as a shooter but is more effective attacking the basket than he is on the perimeter — becoming a more efficient three point shooter would really open up Martin’s game and prospects.

The Southern California wing is an intriguing prospect because of his length and skill. At 6’7 he’s a talented passer that uses his height to see over defenders. A decent athlete that protects the rim, and can hedge and switch ball screens, he’s comming off a junior season where he put up over 16 per game. He should draw a ton of looks this weekend.

Talk about springs in your legs. That is exactly what Martin has in his legs. The best part is he uses them in the help side at the defensive end. He is ball hunting in the air waiting to smack the ball the length of two basketball courts. High motor with the athleticism to add to it. When the people are impressed at your block even when you goaltend; shows the effort he plays with.

Saw quite a bit of Martin in the summer during the Prephoops Circuit, so it was great to see him during this event. I have him tabbed as a Swiss Army Knife type of player, but it was his grit and grind that was impressive to me. He made an impact on the game mixing it up for rebounds as well, as using his long arms to protect the rim on the defensive side of the ball. A high, high academic prospect, Martin is a player that will be on several radars.
