THE FAVORITE
(1) Pewaukee
The reigning two-time defending state champs very well could make it a three-peat. The Pirates have perhaps been better than expected, going 21-3 and losing just one game when fully healthy en route to the Woodland West title. The 1-2 punch of Nick Janowski Nick Janowski 6'3" | SG Pewaukee | 2024 State #126 Nation WI (24.3 ppg) and Iowa State commit Milan Momcilovic Milan Momcilovic 6'8" | SF Pewaukee | 2023 State #44 Nation WI (23.0 ppg) overwhelms most opponents, but once again, head coach David Burkemper has found ways to add depth to this roster. Unlike last season, the Pirates aren’t completely untouchable, but have once again owned a very difficult schedule, beating the likes of Whitnall, Milwaukee Academy of Science, Totino Grace (MN), Oshkosh North, and a sweep over
TOP CONTENDERS
(1) Wisconsin Lutheran
Is this finally the year the Vikings get over the hump and beat Pewaukee. So far, Wisconsin Lutheran has dropped both regular season meetings including a 17-point loss in the most recent matchup. Few teams, if any, have played a more difficult in-state schedule this year. The Vikings have wins over Homestead, Arrowhead, Brookfield Central, and a two-point loss to undefeated and D1 favorite De Pere. There’s still a very good supporting cast around him, but Wisco may go as far as junior wing Kon II Knueppel Kon II Knueppel 6'6" | SG Wisconsin Lutheran | 2024 State #15 Nation WI (20.3 ppg) takes them.
(3) Wauwatosa West
The scariest 3-seed across all divisions, the Trojans just won their first-ever Greater Metro Conference title, earning a share in a three-way tie after finishing 17-7 overall. Led by the trio of Cole Hansen Cole Hansen 6'4" | SG Legacy Early College | 2024 State SC (17.5 ppg), Kai Rogers Kai Rogers 6'10" | C Wauwatosa West | 2025 State #41 Nation WI (15.8 ppg), and Jake Hansen Jake Hansen 6'1" | SG Wauwatosa West | 2025 State #331 Nation WI (14.9 ppg), Tosa West is young, but will be force to be reckoned with for the years to come. After a shaky start, the Trojans are playing some of their best ball, winning eight of their last nine games.
DARK HORSE
(2) Pius XI
One of the previously listed teams is coming out of this sectional. However, if you’re looking for a team that can pull an upset, it’s Pius XI. The Popes finished 16-8 and finished just two games back for a share of the Woodland West title. Averaging 27 points and six rebounds per game, junior guard Jaquan Johnson Jaquan Johnson 5'10" | PG Pius XI | 2024 State WI runs the show and if opponents let him heat up, Johnson can carry his team over the finish line.
