IOWA CITY, Iowa – Like other classes around the state, 2A navigated Thursday’s snow storm in pursuit of reaching Tuesday’s district finals.
Here’s a look at where we stand in 2A as of Saturday morning:
Substate 1, District 1
Fifth-ranked Hull Western Christian will meet Estherville Lincoln Central at Sheldon Tuesday.
Western (18-3) overwhelmed Cherokee Washington, 81-33, Thursday. Senior Tate VanRegenmorter scored 15, while sophomoreadded 14 for the winners.
Juniornetted 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds during Lincoln Central’s 59-44 victory against Garner Hayfield Ventura Thursday. Fellow junior Jordan Jensen contributed 14 points and 11 boards to the win.
Substate 1, District 2
No. 10 West Lyon (17-4) moved on to face 15-6 Emmetsburg in Tuesday’s district final with a 69-43 victory against Okoboji Thursday. Seniorhad 20 points and eight rebounds for West Lyon, while classmate Darren Meyer added 18 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Emmetsburg received 16 points apiece from sophomores Carter Hudson and Gavin Swanson in a 68-49 win against Rock Valley Thursday.
Substate 2, District 3
Fourth-ranked Sioux Central (22-0) moved on to the district final with a 50-31 victory against East Sac County Thursday. Seniorscored 20 points and added 13 rebounds for the Rebels, who also received eight points, 10 rebounds and four assists from senior .
Tuesday, they’ll play South Central Calhoun (17-4), 77-54 winners against Ogden Friday. Seniorscored 22 in the win with junior adding 17.
Substate 2, District 4
OABCIG (18-2) moved on with a 69-39 win against Manson-NW Webster Thursday. Kane Ladwig scored 17 andadded 16 for the winners.
The Falcons await the winner of Saturday’s Kuemper Catholic-Greene County matchup for Tuesday’s final.
Substate 3, District 5
No. 2 Roland Story (21-2) bested PCM, 67-46, Friday in advancing to play South Hardin in Tuesday’s final. The Norsemen have gotten 18.2 points per game from senior, and 16.3 from junior this season.
South Hardin (14-9) knocked off Iowa Falls-Alden, 70-56, Thursday. The Tigers have received 12.5 points an outing from senior Jake Teske and 12.3 from junior Lane Luiken.
Substate 3, District 6
Union Community (10-14) kept its campaign going with a 65-57 upset at Grundy Center Friday. Juniorhas averaged 18.0 points for the Knights with freshman has been adding 15.3.
They’ll face Hudson (17-6) in Tuesday’s final. The Pirates knocked off Dike-New Hartford, 81-60, Thursday with juniorsand Culin Ugrin contributing 29 and 23 points, respectively.
Substate 4, District 7
Eighth-ranked Lake Mills (22-0) moved on with an 83-60 victory against Sumner-Fredricksburg Thursday. Seniorscored 31, and added 17 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks for the winners.
The Bulldogs meet Osage (18-4) in Tuesday’s final. The Green Devils took out North Fayette Valley, 50-37, on Thursday with freshmanscoring 13 and sophomore adding 11.
Substate 4, District 8
Beckman Catholic (16-6) stayed alive with a 60-41 win against Denver Friday. Seniorhas paced the Trailblazers with 22.0 points and 8.8 rebounds this winter.
Beckman will see MFL MarMac (22-1) in Tuesday’s final. The Bulldogs bested New Hampton, 74-47, Thursday with sophomoresand Parker Kuehl scoring 28 and 15 points, respectively.
Substate 5, District 9
No. 3 Aplington-Parkersburg (20-2) got by West Branch, 69-59, Friday. The Falcons received 21 points from seniorand 18 from junior .
They will play the winner of Saturday’s Jesup-Cascade game Tuesday.
Substate 5, District 10
Ninth-ranked Alburnett (20-3) marched on with a 62-58 victory against Northeast Friday. Juniorscored 25 for the Pirates, who also got 16 from .
Monticello (15-6) is up next for them after it topped Camanche, 71-54, Friday.paced the winners with 20, while Tate Peterson (16), Jack Lambert (15) and (12) also reached double figures.
Substate 6, District 11
No. 6 West Burlington (21-1) topped Louisa-Muscatine, 75-39, Friday. Juniorhas averaged 17.2 points and sophomore 14.6 for the Falcons.
They will play Albia, a 42-41 winner against against Mediapolis Friday. Seniorhas posted 24.1 points and 9.3 rebounds an outing in ’22-23.
Substate 6, District 12
Wilton (18-4) received 35 points, 11 rebounds and four assists fromFriday during a 83-61 victory against Mid-Prairie.
Pella Christian (13-9) awaits after the Eagles beat Cardinal, 79-41, Friday. Seniorput up 17 points and eight assists in the win, while juniors Dane Geetings (11) and Tysen De Vries (10) also reached double figures in scoring.
Substate 7, District 13
Seventh-ranked AHSTW (19-2) took down Panorama, 87-57, Friday.broke the school scoring record with 43 points to go with 11 rebounds, while added 26 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Vikings.
They will meet Van Meter (16-6), 64-61 winners against Nodaway Valley Friday. Senior Carter Durflinger led the way with 22 points, while classmateadded 13 points and five boards for the Bulldogs.
Substate 7, District 14
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (20-2) advanced with a 74-36 win against Chariton Friday. Juniorhas led the Rockets with 21.8 points a game with senior adding 13.8.
Des Moines Christian (16-6) awaits them after defeating Centerville, 69-38, Friday. Juniors(16.1 PPG) and (12.4) have paced the Lions this winter.
Substate 8, District 15
Top-ranked Central Lyon (19-1) bested Boyden-Hull, 85-61, Thursday. Juniorexploded for 40 points with senior adding 23 for the victors.
In Tuesday’s district final, they face off with West Sioux (18-4), 63-54 winners against Unity Christian Thursday. Seniorled the way with 18 points, while classmate Carter Bultman chipped in with 15.
Substate 8, District 16
Underwood advanced with a 72-41 victory against Red Oak Friday. The Eagles (19-3) were powered by junior Josh Ravlin’s 23 points, while also getting double figures in scoring from Mason Boothby (11) and Alex Ravlin (10).
Next up is Treynor, 70-43 winners against Clarinda Friday. Juniors Ethan Konz (17 points),(16) and Karson Elwood (15) led the way for the Cardinals (16-6).
