I recapped the month of December in a similar way, you can check that out here : https://prephoops.com/2022/12/nwc-recap-of-december-games-of-the-month/ . Now we will be looking back at the games of the month in the Northwest Conference within the month of January. The NWC is a stacked conference where a lot of teams change wins, there are other games I missed that are deserving.

January 9th: Anacortes 72 Lynden Christian 56 (@ Anacortes HS)

This game featured 2 of the top teams within the NWC, which is as stacked as it's been in a very long time. This game featured a guard matchup of [player_tooltip player_id='1485542' first='Davis' last='Fogle'] going against [player_tooltip player_id='1270689' first='Tyler' last='Sipma']. Fogle was able to take over this game and give the Seahawks control. Davis ended up dropping 29 points in a big win for Anacortes.

January 11th: Mount Vernon 76 Sehome 52 (@ Mount Vernon HS)

Sehome is a top ranked 2A team in the entire state and Mount Vernon started off a little slow before picking up steam and finishing the year very strong. They were able to get this big win against the Mariners in early January, helping the team gain confidence.

January 12th: Lynden 75 Blaine 47 (@ Blaine HS)

This was a huge game for the entire conference when it happened. Both Lynden and Blaine came into this game with conference records standing at 10-0. I attended this game and it was apparent right away Lynden came to play. Parcher and Canales both had good games and the Lions were up 20 at half-time.

January 16th: Lynden 52 North Kitsap 50 (@ ShoWare Center)

Lynden traveled to play a tough North Kitsap team that features [player_tooltip player_id='1450488' first='Cade' last='Orness'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1450502' first='Harry' last='Davies']. This was a big non-league game for both squads and was a back and forth game. [player_tooltip player_id='1417278' first='Coston' last='Parcher'] had the ball for the last shot of the game but missed the lay-up. Treyson Smiley was able to grab the offensive board and put it back up to sink the game winning bucket as time expired.

January 17th: Anacortes 78 Sehome 71 (@ Sehome HS)

This was once again a game featuring 2 of the top teams in the NWC and even the 2A class within the state. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1485542' first='Davis' last='Fogle'] continued his tear through the conference as he dropped 37 points against the Mariners. The Seahawks' tough zone D ended up being a difference maker in this game, slowing down Sehome's big 3.

January 19th: Sehome 76 Lynden Christian 64 (@ Lynden Christian HS)

Sehome was able to bounce back after that Anacortes loss to beat another top team in the NWC and the defending 1A state champions. The Mariners big 3 stood out this game and contributed on both ends of the court. [player_tooltip player_id='1417280' first='Grey' last='Garrison'] had a big game dropping 26 points, [player_tooltip player_id='1270843' first='Grant' last='Kepley'] had 16, and freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='1685499' first='Nolan' last='Wright'] scored 12 points off the bench.

January 20th: Blaine 72 Burlington-Edison 70 (@ Blaine HS)

This was a back and forth game the entire time. It came down to the very end of the game, with senior [player_tooltip player_id='1416315' first='Carson' last='Lehnert'] making the game winning lay-up from a pass from Matthew Russ as time expired. The Tigers played well to stay in the game, with [player_tooltip player_id='1440573' first='Blaine' last='Granberg'] having a solid outing. The Borderites got a much needed win to stay around the top of the standings.

January 25th: Lynden 78 Anacortes 73 (@ Anacortes HS)

Anacortes was almost able to complete the sweep of the top teams and the whole Northwest Conference. This was their sole league loss and it was a close one. [player_tooltip player_id='1485542' first='Davis' last='Fogle'] did all he could for the Seahawks dropping 42 (!) points in the game. Canales and Parcher were both able to have 20+ and the Lions played great ball at the end of the game to seal it. These 2 could meet late in the 2A state tournament.
