Zashon Rich
Zashon Rich
Zashon Rich continues to put together dominant two-way performances for North. He’s arguably the best defender I’ve seen all year, as he’s absolutely relentless on the ball and has the explosiveness to double as a shot blocking threat. I’ve also never seen him get outhustled, as he finds ways to get to loose balls that are twice as far from him as opposing players. On the offensive end he was finishing off everything inside, and had a posterizing dunk in the second half that got the whole crowd on their feet.
OT started off quiet against Highland Park, but after going to the bench for a few minutes, he came back in and took the game over. At 6’4 he’s an impressive athlete who has a nose for the rim, he was jumping passes to get out in transition, showcasing a fluid handle to beat his man off the dribble, and working hard off the ball to receive passes on the block. In the second half he threw down two explosive dunks to really put the game away. Finished with 26 points in a win over a solid Highland Park team.
Highlights
Even with the crowd talking trash to him all game, Caden put together a strong second half to bring Southwest back within single digits down the stretch. Although he’s typically more of a facilitator, Sullivan showed he can score in a variety of ways. At 6’4 he was able to hit jumpers from deep and mid-range, while also showing his touch around the rim. Really like his ability to come over a ball screen and then attack downhill. Caden showed off his court vision with some nice passes zipped in from the top of the key, using his height to see over the top of opposing guards.
Max had the best game that I’ve seen out of him this season, finishing with 19 points and although I haven’t seen an official number he was likely nearing a double-double with his assist numbers. Wilson was having a ton of success getting into the paint and zipping the ball to one of his cutting teammates. Also picked up an impressive assist throwing the ball ahead in transition and hitting his man in-stride towards the rim. He hit a few outside shots, threw down a transition dunk, and finished off a few drives at the rim for his 19 points. Also provides a ton of vocal energy on the floor.
Xavier May
Xavier May
Xavier has been putting together a nice junior year for a Highland Park in the race for a City Conference title. At 6’4 he offers size and a versatile offensive skillset. He started off mostly on the perimeter knocking down a three and using change of speed to beat his man to the rim. As the game wore on though we saw him look to post up against smaller wings. He was competing physically to establish position, and ended up scoring on some strong finishes. Finished with 16 points on the night.
Dillon was the primary source of offense for Southwest throughout most of the game. He’s so quick and with his deep range defenders are often having to chase him anywhere within the half-court. Engen is really active off the ball looking to find open spots on the perimeter to get off his shot. Hit a handful of threes while also attacking the basket with his man chasing behind for a few finishes. Utilizes his quickness well on the defensive end to move his feet and guard on the ball.
Yared Yohannes
Yared Yohannes
Yared brought a nice scoring spark to the floor for Highland Park. He’s very quick on the ball and when the offense stalled he found success creating his own looks off the dribble. Possesses a smooth jumper that allowed him to get to his spots and elevate to knock down shots from mid-range or three. Finished with 17 points in the tough loss to Park.
