Continue ReadingWisconsin’s high school basketball scene has been strong the last few years and has even produced top tier NBA talent. Although seniors typically garner the attention of college programs, it’s important to highlight the young, upcoming stars. This week, Prep Hoops takes a look at the top underclassmen in the Woodland-East. Players mentioned include Jayden Ragland, Jake Sherman Jake Sherman 6'0" | PG Shorewood | 2026 WI , Logan Laine, Dahir Abdullahi, Jack Lutz Jack Lutz 6'0" | SG Whitnall | 2025 State WI , and Myles Herro Myles Herro 6'2" | PG Whitnall | 2025 State #237 Nation WI .
Jayden Ragland
Jayden Ragland
Jayden Ragland is putting together quite the impressive freshman campaign. He’s scored double figures in over a third of his games, with a career high of 21 points. He’s averaging 8.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Jayden has a quick first step and is able to make zero second decisions to attack the hoop or find an open teammate. He shows flashes as a primary ball handler and a good distributor for a long time to come. He has a smooth looking three point shot and can defend at a high level. I love his lateral movement and his ability to play full court defense. Jayden is a name to keep an eye on in the 2026 class.
Based on what’s reported so far (3 games), Jake Sherman Jake Sherman 6’0″ | PG Shorewood | 2026 WI is averaging 13.7 points in his freshman campaign. He projects as a score first combo guard that can create separation. He’s best utilized coming off screens and dribble handoffs. He’s solid in catch and shoot situations, showing confidence and quick decisions on his shot. His three point range is impressive. Jake can shoot 3-4 feet behind the three-point line, showing collegiate potential. His vision is developing as he adjusts to the high school game. I’d like to see him attack the hoop more in isolation situations, especially when the three point shot isn’t falling.
Highlights
Logan Laine
Logan Laine
As a sophomore, Logan Laine has started every game for his South Milwaukee squad. He’s averaging 6.8 points and 4.6 rebounds on the year. Already listed at 6’6″, Logan can become a force for South Milwaukee next year. He does a solid job moving and staying active on the offensive end. He rotates well and finds space which helps create driving lanes for his teammates. He’s an effective scorer and runs the floor well in transition. He does a solid job of finding a body and getting involved on the glass. I’d expect both his scoring and rebounding numbers to take a leap next season.
Dahir Abdullahi
Dahir Abdullahi
I’ve already talked about Dahir Abdullahi this year, but he is one of the most talented underclassmen in the Woodland conference altogether. As the season is progressing, so his Dahir. In his last five games, Dahir is averaging 9.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 steals. All up from the start of the season. He’s becoming more consistent and utilized. He’s a coachable guy that brings defensive intensity every possession. He’s diving on the floor, causing deflections, and crashing the boards. With Greenfield’s role players mainly consisting of seniors, it’ll be interesting to track Dahir’s progression next season.
Jack Lutz Jack Lutz 6’0″ | SG Whitnall | 2025 State WI ‘s hot offensive start to the year has slowed down a bit, but he still leads a talented Whitnall team in scoring at 14.9 points per game. Having a break through sophomore year, Jack will continue to climb the rankings in Wisconsin. He’s a solid basketball player that impacts the game in many ways. He can score, rebound, and pass. He has a high IQ and is active on the court. The last few games, his defense has improved. He looks more comfortable defending and he’s been able to cause deflections, while grabbing 11 steals in his last five games. With Austin Herro Austin Herro 6’2″ | CG Whitnall | 2023 State WI departing after this season, Jack will likely become the focal point to Whitnall’s offense.
Highlights
Myles Herro Myles Herro 6’2″ | PG Whitnall | 2025 State #237 Nation WI is a pass first point guard that also shows potential as a solid rebounder. He’s already listed at 6’2″ and has polished ball handling capabilities. His vision and passing abilities are fun to watch. You can tell Myles has a solid understanding of how to play the game at a high level. Myles has struggled this year shooting the ball, but I don’t think he should shy away from his shot. I’d like to see him attack more and become more involved in catch and shoot opportunities. I’m expecting Myles to take a leap next year after what should be a strong AAU season. Once Myles puts everything together, he’ll be a solid prospect.
