The 2A East has some talented prospects to keep an eye on in 2022-23. Take a look at some teams to keep an eye on in the NCHSAA 2A East as the final two weeks of the regular season approaches.

Farmville Central Jaguars (19-1)

Farmville Central enters the final two weeks of the regular season with just one loss under their belt. Last year's NCHSAA 2A State title was won by Hayesvilles but the Farmville Central Jaguars have won 3 of the last four including a share of the 2019-20 title. Farmville Central is in rare form led by senior guards [player_tooltip player_id='854917' first='Jah' last='Short'] and [player_tooltip player_id='854911' first='Jayden' last='Pitt']. Pitt has shown he can knock down shots on the perimeter while Short flies around on both ends making spectacular plays himself. Sophomore sharpshooter [player_tooltip player_id='1707110' first='MJ' last='Williams'] is posting impressive numbers as well (13.6 ppg) in 2022-23. 2024s [player_tooltip player_id='1076368' first='Alex' last='Moye'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1774403' first='Jayden' last='Daniels'] are two other names to keep an eye on with this squad. Daniels is putting up 11.3 ppg while Moye is posting 9.9 ppg. They're a well-rounded group that just keep coming at you on both ends of the floor.

Goldsboro Cougars (18-2)

Goldsboro High should prove to be a tough opponent come playoff time as they sport an 18-2 record and are currently 6-0 in conference play. [player_tooltip player_id='949375' first='Ta'Korrie' last='Faison'], [player_tooltip player_id='1693944' first='Tajmari' last='Joyner'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1076371' first='Amari' last='Latham'] have proven to be a formidable trio to deal with in 2022-23 with an 8-point loss to Farmville Central as one of their losses. Faison leads the charge for the Cougars with 25.9 ppg, 12.1 rpg, 2.2 bpg and 2.1 apg. He's shown he can take the ball out of the net on rebounds and make things happen handling the basketball and recently committed to East Carolina. Latham is right behind Faison with 19.2 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.7 spg and 2.1 apg. He's a long, wiry forward that cleans up on the glass and has also shown he can handle the ball and knock down shots on the perimeter. Joyner is their X-Factor with his ability to defend on the perimeter and knock down shots all over the floor. He's an unsigned senior averaging 16.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 4.9 apg and 3.1 spg.

Hertford County Bears (15-3)

Hertford County High enters the final two weeks of the regular season with a 15-3 record and 9-1 conference record. Unsigned senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='854912' first='Israel' last='Powell'] and 2024 wing [player_tooltip player_id='1225453' first='Keveon' last='Rodgers'] have led quite the season for the Bears in 2022-23. Powell is posting 15.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.9 apg and 2.1 spg as the primary leader on offense. He's an unsigned senior that can blow by defenders and make things happen in the paint. Rodgers is an even bigger presence in averaging 14.1 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 5.6 apg, 2.6 spg and 2.4 bpg as an all-around presence on both ends of the floor for the Bears. They're two prospects that DII and DIII schools should get eyes on.

Greene Central Rams (17-4)

The Greene Central Rams are something of a "sleeper" in the 2A East with a 17-4 record and 8-1 in conference play. 6-foot-4 wing [player_tooltip player_id='1774433' first='Kendrick' last='Harper'] leads the way for the Rams with 16.1 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 4.1 bpg and 2.4 spg. He recently posted 30 points and 13 rebounds in their most recent victory over Ayden-Grifton. He's an athletic presence that flies around on both ends of the floor for Greene Central High. Unsigned seniors Nemaj Auston and Savior Branch are two other names to know with them. Auston is putting up 10.9 ppg while Branch is producing 9.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg in the rotation.

Kinston Vikings (16-4)

Kinston High hovers as another "sleeper" squad out of the 2A East ranks sporting a record of 16-4 and 8-1 in conference action. They've got four guards that get after it on both ends in Jaylen Cobb, [player_tooltip player_id='1062123' first='Tomir' last='Moore'], [player_tooltip player_id='1050411' first='Khalil' last='Sanders'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1050410' first='Khalid' last='Sanders']. Cobb pushes the envelope on defense and looks to get out on the break to make plays at the rim. Moore is the primary offensive scoring threat with his ability to knock down shots off the bounce and finish in traffic. The Sanders twins bring their own blend of defense and shooting to the rotation that allows the Vikings to use full-court pressure to constantly stay on opponents.

The 2A East has some talented prospects to keep an eye on in 2022-23. Take a look at some teams to keep an eye on in the NCHSAA 2A East as the final two weeks of the regular season approaches.
