Hayden Tibbits Hayden Tibbits 5’11” | PG Wayzata | 2023 State MN continues to show why he’s one of the state’s top point guards helping lead Wayzata to a tough win over BSM on Wednesday. He may be outmatched in terms of size most games, but you can bet he’ll outplay just about anyone you put in front of him. Throughout the game he used his quickness and court vision to get to any spot on the floor he wanted to, knocking down some tough pull-up jumpers along the way. Although more than capable of excelling as a facilitator, Hayden knew he had to put up points this game, and he did just that putting up 28 points from a mix of jumpers and crafty finishes.
Highlights
Ronald had a nice second half for BSM helping keep them in the game against a tough Wayzata team. His constant ball pressure on defense was fun to watch as it sped the game up and made things unpredictable as you never knew when he was going to poke the ball free and give his team transition opportunities. There aren’t many guards with the type of lateral quickness who can sit deep in a stance and move their feet like Ron can. Offensively he’s a tough finisher with good body control around the rim who can also knock down open threes. Provides a second option to handle the ball for his team as well.
JJ Ware JJ Ware 6’6″ | SF Park Center | 2023 State MN was key for Park Center in their highly anticipated showdown with Totino-Grace. At 6’5 he not only provides plenty of size alternating between the 3 and 4 spots, but he’s also a knockdown shooter from beyond the arcs who keeps the floor spread for some of the athletic slashers on his team. JJ is capable of knocking down jumpers off the catch or dribble, and he gets great elevation on his shot making it difficult for defenders to get a good contest on him. Hit a key three from the corner late in the game to help hold off one last run from TG.
Even as a freshman Jayden has been one of the most productive players in the state, and he’s doing so while leading a AAAA team to a better start than many anticipated. Against a top-5 opponent in Eden Prairie, Moore put up a triple-double with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists. Two things that really stick out about Jayden is how quickly he looks to get the ball up the floor via the pass or dribble, and also how well he maneuvers through tight spaces. Defenders may think they have him trapped, but he can quickly split it and get into the lane to makes plays as a finisher or passer. Puts his quickness to use defending on the ball, and has a knack for reading where a missed shot will go allowing him to pull down rebounds in bulk.
Highlights
Luke Rapp
Luke Rapp
Luke Rapp has been one of the surprise players of the season. After averaging 9.6 ppg through the first five games of the year, he’s went on to average 25.2 ppg over the last five games. He stuck right with that average putting up 25 points against Hopkins to help claw his team back into it after Hopkins got off to the best shooting start I’ve seen all season. Rapp is extremely dangerous when he’s able to catch with his feet set on the perimeter, and has a quick release to get his shot off before the closeout arrives. In the open floor he’s also pretty explosive as he can glide to the rim off one or two feet for some tough finishes.
It hasn’t really mattered what type of size is guarding him, opposing bigs can’t seem to stop Vincent when he catches on the block. He has some of the best footwork in the state mixing in a variety of pivots to get a good angle to finish, as well as possession the touch to score with either hand around the rim. Vincent mixed in hook shots, turnaround jumpers, and power finishes on his way to 24 points in the win. As the only true big on his team he’s relied upon heavily for rebounding, and he does a great job of always finding a body to box out as soon as a shot goes up. Someone who goes out and works hard every minute leading to consistent production for his team.
You’ll have a hard time finding someone who can pull-up for a jumper as quickly as Anthony. He has incredibly quick feet and because of that he only needs a little bit of separation from his defender to get into his shot as they often aren’t able to react quickly enough to get a hand up on him. Started off high school as mainly a three point shooter, but has been extremely dangerous this winter taking one/two dribbles into a mid-range shot. Perfect fit for Hopkins’ play style this year as he’s always looking to push the ball ahead, has the quickness to apply constant ball pressure, and he keeps the ball moving in the half-court. Finished with 25 points in the win over Eden Prairie.
