The 57th Tournament Of Champions took place this week in downtown Tulsa at the BOK Center and Prep Hoops Oklahoma was there from start to finish. We’ve already had a ton of coverage from the three days but in this post, we’re taking a look at the very best performances from this week. From the MVP selection to the other five All Tourney picks, we’re taking a look back at the six best performers that we saw throughout the week in Tulsa.
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
There was absolutely no drama with this pick as it was obvious that Dale junior Dayton Forsythe Dayton Forsythe 6’3″ | PG Dale | 2024 State #206 Nation OK was the best player in the tournament, he’s clearly one of the best in the state. It’s hard not to dive face first into hyperbole when talking about what Forsythe did at the TOC this week. But it truly was a special thing to watch, especially in the title game. He would go for a game-high 34 points and 10 rebounds and 5 assists. He went 10-15 from the field and a perfect 10-10 from the charity stripe. Forsythe showed very early on that he and the Pirates were ready for a fight with Memorial. Every time the Chargers hit a basket, Forsythe immediately answered. He started the game 4-4 from beyond the arc and it felt like every time he had the ball, he could rise up and shoot and the ball was going to go in. It was a dominating performance from one of the best players in the state. It was a superstar performance from a player who plays like a superhero. When Forsythe throws that cape on, special things happen and they happened again this week. The performance this week in Tulsa has already helped give him a spark in his recruitment as Oklahoma State offered the Dale standout earlier today.
ALL TOURNEY TEAM
For the second straight year, Crossings Christian guard Cal Furnish Cal Furnish 5’11” | PG Crossings Christian | 2025 State OK absolutely torched the nets inside the BOK Center. Last year, Furnish became a statewide name as a freshman with his performance at the TOC. This year, he came into the tourney as one of the top players to watch and he lived up to the hype. And he got that attention this year immediately in their first game of the tourney when they stunned 6A’s #1 Edmond North. Furnish led all scorers with 18 points. In Thursday’s semifinal, Furnish struggled as the Knights would fall to eventual tourney champion Dale. Furnish was 2-10 from the field but he would bounce back in a big way in the third place game against Kingfisher. Furnish would lead all scorers with 29 points, going 10-15 from the field and 7-10 from beyond the arc. It was a great bounce back performance as Furnish continues to excel on big stages.
Memorial came up short in the TOC title game for the second straight year but senior forward Jarreth Ingram Jarreth Ingram 6’4″ | SF Noah | 2023 State OK still earned his spot as one of the best players in the tournament. Ingram got off to a bad start in the first round win over Roff. He was held to just six points and could never get into any kind of a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball. But in the semifinal win over Kingfisher and in the title game against Dale, Ingram found that rhythm and could not be contained. In the semifinal win, Ingram would go for 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. In the title game, Ingram would lead the team with 17 points and also grabbed 8 boards. After going 2-7 from the field on Wednesday, he went a combined 13-21 over the next two days. Ingram has the ability to be one of the better players in the senior class and he showed it over the last two days.
Highlights
Edmond North was upset by Crossings Christian on Wednesday in the first round and a big reason was because star junior guard TO Barrett TO Barrett 6’4″ | SG Link Academy | 2024 #138 Nation MO was in foul trouble and eventually fouled out as he missed the majority of the second half. But when Barrett came back on Thursday and Friday, he came back with a vengeance. He helped lead the Huskies to an easy win over Union on Thursday with nearly 20 points. Then on Friday, it was time for a showdown with two of the best players in the state’s 2024 class as Barrett and the Huskies faced David Castillo David Castillo 6’1″ | PG Sunrise Christian Academy (KS) | 2024 #80 Nation KS and Bartlesville. Barrett won this match-up, both on the scoreboard and in the head to head match-up as he did a great job locking up Castillo and showing the complete package of his game. Scoring, playmaking, passing, defense, Barrett had it all working for him as the Huskies rolled to another win.
When people look back on Dale’s run to the Tournament Of Champions title, they’ll talk about Dayton Forsythe Dayton Forsythe 6’3″ | PG Dale | 2024 State #206 Nation OK and how the junior guard was dominant all three days. But an underrated part of their title run was sophomore forward Trayden Chambers Trayden Chambers 6’7″ | PF Dale | 2025 State OK and his performance in the semifinals. He was nearly perfect from the field, going 10-12 from the field and absolutely cleaned up in the paint as the Pirates would knock off Crossings Christian to punch their ticket to the TOC title game. Chambers wouldn’t have as much of an impact in the scoring department in the other two games but it doesn’t matter. He did so many other things incredibly well, including a lot of the “dirty work” that big men have to do in the paint. Just a sophomore, Chambers is a name that we’re interested in following the rest of the way.
Highlights
It was a slow start for Kingfisher senior guard Xavier Ridenour Xavier Ridenour 6’2″ | CG Kingfisher | 2023 State OK but he finished incredibly strong as Kingfisher fell in the third place game to Crossings Christian in a 1 VS 2 match-up in Class 4A. In addition to Ridenour, fellow senior Caden Kitchens Caden Kitchens 6’2″ | SF Kingfisher | 2023 State OK had a strong showing throughout the tournament but we’re giving the nod to Ridenour here with how he finished the tourney. Ridenour’s shot was just not falling like it has for the majority of his career. But he still impacted the game in a variety of ways throughout the week. And then when it was time for one of those shots to go in, it did late in the game against Crossings that could have been the game-winner. But Crossings stunned the Yellowjackets with a put back at the buzzer.
