Datrell got off to a good start with his new team on Monday, helping lead Maranatha to a convincing win over Hiawatha Collegiate. McCrimmon came out of the gates firing, draining a deep three and then converting on two lay-ups in transition for a quick seven points. Hiawatha just didn’t have anyone quick enough to keep him in front as Datrell was able to get to the rim whenever he wanted to that night. McCrimmon is fearless attacking the basket with the ability to hang in the air and finish in a variety of ways. Defensively he’s going to apply heavy ball pressure using his quickness to slide his feet and force his man to constantly change directions. Also has the quick hands to poke the ball free and create turnovers to get his team out in transition.
Cash was on another level Thursday night against DeLaSalle. He was able to get to the rim whenever he wanted to, as his ability to change directions while maintaining his momentum going downhill is extremely hard to defend. Chavis started out the game leaking out in transition for an explosive dunk, and then knocked down a mid-range shot off a left-to-right crossover. Really impressed with the improvements in his pull-up jumper as it’s a lot smoother/quicker now, whereas last year he was slow getting into it making it harder for him to get that shot off. Chavis had some acrobatic finishes at the rim, and played a key role in Park Center’s high pressure defense that forced countless DeLaSalle turnovers.

Jackson was the spark that got Lakeville South going on Tuesday night against Wayzata. He was able to get into double figures in the first half by getting to the rim for a pair of tough finishes, as well as knocking down two 3’s to give his team a ton of momentum to build up their lead. Ressler possesses good positional size and handles the ball well under pressure. Played with composure in a high level matchup, making smart reads offensively while going down and defending multiple spots on the other end of the floor.
Bluford was a menace on the defensive end, particularly in the second half. It seemed like when others were getting tired, Matthew had another flip to switch to take advantage of others’ fatigue. Bluford was picking up full court and forcing turnover after turnover, all while turning those steals into instant points with his quickness to the basket. In the half0court he’s lightning quick with the ball in his hands, able to get into the lane and finish over the top with a floater. Maranatha has a lot of depth this year, and Matthew’s play on both ends could help them make a deep run in the playoffs.
Romelle has a blend of physical attributes and skills that you don’t see often. He has the size of a guard and can certainly handle the ball like one, but he’s also extremely strong and can play like a power forward around the basket with his ability to bully defenders. Bell was very dangerous catching in the high post and facing up with a number of options on how to put points on the board. He can turn and hit the mid-range shot, attack all the way to the basket, find a teammate cutting to the rim, or dribble into a post up. Once at the basket he’s just too strong for most high school defenders to contain, and he was able to power his way to the rim for 18 points. Added in 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals in the tough loss.

With Jackson Ressler Jackson Ressler 6’4″ | PG Lakeville South | 2023 State MN leading the charge in the first half, it was Marley who stepped up in the second when South’s offense was stalling. The biggest shot was the step-back three to send it into overtime, but he also had another corner three and two finishes at the rim in the low scoring game. He has height, strength, explosive athleticism, and good change of pace off the dribble that makes him a difficult matchup for opposing defenses. Rarely will teams have a guy his size with the quickness needed to keep him in front. Team high 12 points in the win.

JJ played a key role in the win for Park Center last night. With so many explosive athletes/finishers around him, JJ’s shooting ability helped stretch the floor and open up some of those lanes. In the first half he knocked down a smooth mid-range jumper off of two dribbles, then added in a catch-and-shoot three. In the second he hit two 3’s from the same corner, but also utilized his size on the glass to pull in two offensive boards and go right back up with them.
