Datrell got off to a good start with his new team on Monday, helping lead Maranatha to a convincing win over Hiawatha Collegiate. McCrimmon came out of the gates firing, draining a deep three and then converting on two lay-ups in transition for a quick seven points. Hiawatha just didn’t have anyone quick enough to keep him in front as Datrell was able to get to the rim whenever he wanted to that night. McCrimmon is fearless attacking the basket with the ability to hang in the air and finish in a variety of ways. Defensively he’s going to apply heavy ball pressure using his quickness to slide his feet and force his man to constantly change directions. Also has the quick hands to poke the ball free and create turnovers to get his team out in transition.

Datrell should play a key role for Maranatha this winter, as the junior is lightning quick with the skill to hurt you as a scorer or facilitator. He’s a high level shooter from beyond the arc with his left-handed stroke, but has worked on becoming a mid-range threat as well. Even though he’ll always be one of the smallest players on the floor, he gets good elevation on his shot which allows him to get it off over a closeout. Defensively he showed he can be a pest on the ball, and he has excellent timing to sneak up on guys with quick double-teams/traps to force turnovers. His team looked like they wanted to play fast, and Datrell fits in perfectly with that up-tempo style of play.

Datrell played a key role off the bench as a sophomore at Minneapolis North, and will be transferring to Maranatha Christian Academy where he’ll look to up his production even more. He has such a smooth shot from beyond the arc with a quick release that allows him to capitalize on space while it’s there. Changes directions quickly which allows him to weave in and out of defenders, and is such a crafty finisher around the basket. Has some toughness on the defensive end and with his quickness and low center of gravity he’s able to get under guys and disrupt them off the dribble.
