1. Chaminade Julienne
CJ lost star Jonathan Powell Jonathan Powell 6'5" | SG Centerville | 2024 State #164 Nation OH but reloaded with George Washington III George Washington III 6'3" | CG Chaminade Julienne | 2023 State #92 Nation OH , Jackson Washington and return guys like Evan Dickey Evan Dickey 6'4" | SG Chaminade-Julienne | 2023 State OH and Devin Rakestraw Devin Rakestraw 6'6" | PF Chaminade Julienne | 2024 State OH . I expect this team to compete for a GCL and state championship.
2. Akron Buchtel
Buchtel has lost a couple key pieces from their team last season as Braylin Wells Braylin Wells 6'7" | C Pickerington Central | 2024 State OH is back at Pickerington Central and Zevin Gadson is in Arizona, but the return of Khoi Thurmon Khoi Thurmon 6'1" | PG Buchtel | 2023 State OH and Amire Robinson Amire Robinson 6'4" | SF Buchtel | 2023 State OH has them near the top. MJ Boyce MJ Boyce 6'2" | SG Buchtel | 2023 State OH is a solid role piece who has plenty of experience and Buchtel has some younger pieces ready to take the next step.
3. Gilmour Academy
The state runner ups last season, Gilmour returns Desh Molton Desh Molton 6'0" | PG Gilmour | 2023 State OH and Brandon Rose Brandon Rose 6'4" | SF Gilmour | 2023 State OH from that squad. The Lancers also have a great head coach and a history of competing in Division II, I expect them to be competitive once again in 2022-23.
4. Dayton Dunbar
The Allen brothers return and star guard Bj Hatcher Bj Hatcher 6'1" | PG Northmont | 2025 State OH is ready to take the next step. I love the athleticism and competitiveness this team plays with and expect them to be a tough out come playoff time.
5. CVCA
Darryn Peterson Darryn Peterson 6'5" | CG Huntington Prep | 2025 State #4 Nation WV is a one man wrecking crew and after striking out on some big transfers, CVCA will be relying on internal development to help Peterson compete for a state title.
6. St Marys Memorial
Austin Parks Austin Parks 6'9" | C St. Mary's Memorial | 2023 State #166 Nation OH is the biggest force in this division as the future Ohio State Buckeye will be a terror defensively. The Roughriders also have some other size that will be a match-up problem for teams that lack size and shooting.
7. Kettering Alter
One of the most skilled teams in this division, Alter has a lot of guards with talent including Anthony Ruffolo Anthony Ruffolo 5'10" | PG Archbishop Alter | 2023 State OH , Gavin Geisel Gavin Geisel 6'0" | SG Alter | 2023 State OH and Aj Leen Aj Leen 6'2" | SF Kettering Alter | 2023 State OH . The question will be can the Knights defend well enough with the loss of Jacob Conner.
8. Cincinnati Taft
The state champs in Division III make the jump up without Rayvon Griffith but Eian Elmer Eian Elmer 6'6" | SF Taft | 2023 State OH and Kieran Granville-Britten Kieran Granville-Britten 6'7" | C Princeton | 2025 State OH gives Taft the star power to compete in a higher division.
9. Bishop Ready
Another squad making the jump from Division III, Ready has a lot of scoring talent returning like Kaleb Schaffer Kaleb Schaffer 6'5" | PF Bishop Ready | 2023 State OH and Luke Ruth Luke Ruth 6'2" | CG Bishop Ready | 2023 State OH . This team has a lot of chemistry and can score the ball efficiently.
10. Youngstown Ursuline
Terrance Pankey Jr Terrance Pankey Jr 6'0" | PG Ursuline | 2023 State OH and Jaden Payne Jaden Payne 6'7" | PF Ursuline | 2024 State OH is a great pick and roll duo and this team is ready to compete on a statewide level after being one of the best teams in the Youngstown area for a few seasons.
