Showed why he was easily the best player on the court during this game. After shaking off some “me ball” moments early going 1-on-1, Peterson settled in and let the game come to him. Offensively, he showed skill as a three-level scorer, having a wildly efficient night against top talent. Peterson finished 11-17 from the floor adding in 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals. He simply willed Prolific to this win. On the defensive side, he was making impressive reads and getting into passing lanes or timing his jumps right when Columbus went up without protecting the ball better and was able to swat it.

Peterson was the most notable youth prospect to come through Ohio in over a decade. A consensus top 5 prospect in the country from the first rankings release on every major website, Peterson established himself as one of the top players in the country and one of the best to come through Ohio. I first caught Peterson at the NEO Spotlight COVID camp where many of the top 2022 and 2023 prospects were participating like Sean Jones and Devin Royal. Peterson stood out as one of the better players at the camp and immediately floored me with his skill level and maturity for his age. Peterson played two seasons at CVCA before leaving for Huntington Prep as a Junior. He will now spend his senior season at Prolific Prep in California.

Peterson put together one of the most dominant performances during a marquee July grassroots event, scoring 38 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Peterson did an excellent job getting to the foul line, going 18/20. One of the most polished scorers in the country, Peterson did an excellent job getting to his spots and pulling up from the mid-range. His best sequence of the evening came when he blocked a shot and immediately took it coast to coast and finished with his left hand. One of the top players in the country, multiple NBA teams had scouts in attendance tonight.

Darryn Peterson is one of those can’t-miss prospects when you go to a 3SSB Session. While his team wasn’t as successful as he would’ve liked in Session 2, they are always in position to win when he is in the game. Darryn’s positional size and strength stand out at 6’6″ with a stocky frame. He is a great ball handler who can have the offense run through him from a variety of positions on the floor. Peterson is also a good defender, rebounder, and confident scorer from all three levels. He went for 25 Points twice this weekend, once against Midwest Basketball Club on Friday where he also hauled in 11 Rebounds, and then again on Sunday against Team Loaded NC.

does a little bit of everything, but at a high level. He is a good on-ball defender and rebounder, but he is at his best with the ball in his hands on the offensive end. He sees the floor very well and has great touch on his pull-up jumper but can also finish around bigger bodies at the rim. Darryn also possesses all the physical requirements to play at a High Major level including size, strength, and in particular a quick first step.

The headliner for Ohio’s 2025 class, Peterson is a consensus top 5 national talent and continues to show why he’s so highly regarded. One of the most skilled players in the country, Peterson has a deep bag of tricks when attacking the basket, finishing at the rim and using his elite touch to get shots to fall. The full scoring package was on display on Wednesday as he single handedly brought back Phenom United 16 U to take the lead against Indiana Elite 16 U after being down by almost 20 points early in the second half. Peterson had a putback slam, some nasty finishes at the rim and a handful of pull-up mid-range jumpers to finish with probably somewhere in the 25-30 point range on the game. Really the one thing I want to see more from Peterson is the spot-up 3-pointer. If he can shoot that shot with confidence off the catch, it’ll open up even more of his rhythm shot making moves that he’s so incredibly tough to stop with.
