The 2022-2023 basketball season is getting closer and closer as scrimmages will be starting in a few weeks. In Edmond on Sunday, we hosted some of the better basketball players in the state and other prospects looking for exposure and competition. We got to see plenty of it on Sunday morning and into the early afternoon and there was some great basketball on display throughout. In this post, we take a look at the best of the best. These five prospects stood out every time they stepped on the floor. They’re going to have a major impact for their schools this winter and it was great to see them compete on Sunday. Stay tuned to Prep Hoops Oklahoma for more coverage of the Top250 Expo!
Before the event began, we wrote about the players to watch on Sunday and several of the prospects listed here were on that same list. But near the top of the list for me personally was Westville standout Buddy Hammer Buddy Hammer 6’7″ | SF Westville | 2023 State OK . I haven’t seen Hammer in person and he absolutely lived up to the hype of being a small school standout that has a deep bag of tricks on the offensive side of the ball. Hammer was teamed up with fellow top performer Chiante Tramble Chiante Tramble 6’2″ | PG Edmond North | 2024 State OK from Putnam City West and the two made up the best duo in attendance on Sunday. Hammer is going to be a fun player to watch throughout the school season out in eastern Oklahoma. Westville is going to be a team to watch in Class 3A. Even though Millwood is the heavy favorite, having a player like Hammer will give Westville a real chance at making it to OKC and contending for the gold ball.
On the same team as Buddy Hammer Buddy Hammer 6’7″ | SF Westville | 2023 State OK was Putnam City West guard Chiante Tramble Chiante Tramble 6’2″ | PG Edmond North | 2024 State OK . He was yet another player that we wrote about as a player to watch and he recently was ranked nationally by Prep Hoops. Tramble was outstanding from start to finish on the offensive side of the ball. Tramble got his shot up from just about everywhere but he was also showing off his strength as a big guard and finishing in the paint, dominating the offensive glass and finding a way to get put back buckets. Tramble helped lead Moore to the 6A state championship game back in March and now he looks to lead Putnam City West to the same thing this upcoming season. We knew that Tramble was going to be a player to watch on Sunday as arguably the top prospect there and he was able to back that up throughout the day.
In that same preview of the event, looking at some of the best players, we featured Union junior Dalen Fuller Dalen Fuller 6’4″ | CG Union | 2024 State OK and said that he would have the chance to be the best highlight player in attendance. And we have to give him that title as the lefty got several opportunities to turn heads with breakaway dunk after breakaway dunk. But Fuller wasn’t just slamming his way to this list. Fuller was also knocking down shots from the perimeter and showing off his shooting range. I believe that Fuller is one of the best athletes in the state when it comes to basketball prospects and he is primed to have a very big year for Union. Fuller can absolutely jump out of the gym and the combination of size, athleticism and instincts makes Fuller a prospect to watch in the state’s 2024 class. With Fuller returning with fellow 2024 guard Cedric Dixon Cedric Dixon 6’3″ | SG Grind Prep | 2024 State #323 Nation OK , the Redhawks have one of the better backcourts in 6A.
We had three courts going at the same time and had a writer at each court and I was able to rotate around the various courts. For me personally, the best player I watched from start to finish was Nathan Hale guard Kabron Lewis Kabron Lewis 6’2″ | CG Hale | 2024 State OK . He had a complete performance on both sides of the ball and was also one of the best vocal leaders on the court. Lewis was outstanding with his shot from the perimeter. He also was one of the better defenders in attendance and that led to several turnovers that created easy points. Lewis was also finishing at the basket with ease. And in a setting where it was essentially pick up games, Lewis was a fantastic teammates with players that Lewis probably never played with before. Like I said, one of the other four players might have had better performances but for me, it was all about the Nathan Hale standout.
Highlights
Right there with Union guard Dalen Fuller Dalen Fuller 6’4″ | CG Union | 2024 State OK in terms of highlight plays was Destiny Christian forward Sentinel Moore Sentinel Moore 6’8″ | PF Destiny Christian | 2023 OK . The senior is going to be a fun player to watch this season as he takes the court for his senior season. On Sunday, Moore showed off his leaping ability and his athleticism was off the charts. Moore was one of the prospects on the radar before we came into the event on Sunday and like several others on this list, he backed up the hype surrounding his game. Moore and the rest of the Destiny Christian standouts are intriguing prospects to watch moving forward. Destiny Christian is not an OSSAA-member school so they might not get as much attention as some of the other schools but they should. If they were, they have the talent to be a state tournament in several classes. And Moore’s dominating game is a big reason why.
