I don’t know if he showed up late or was just very quiet, but I didn’t even notice Adams on the floor until the late stages of regulation. When I did, he was in the middle of just about everything Marquette did during a strong second half surge to push the game into overtime. Adams knocked down a pair of 3’s and dished out some key assists to teammates. A selfless, high-IQ guard who can play on and off the ball, Adams is one of those guys who generally ties a team together. Rarely going to lead his squad in scoring, but guys love playing with him because he’ll make the extra pass, dribble into high percentage areas, and just make the right basketball play.

One of the top available seniors in Wisconsin, Cook was pretty much unstoppable against Marquette. The 6-foot-2 guard, who played a lot at the point, was too much to handle 1-on-1. Waukesha South gets Cook a lot of isolation touches and he can mix things up in the mid-range or get straight to the rack in one dribble. Cook’s tight handles, explosive first step, and utilization of hesitation and head fakes just keep defenders on their heels. A lot of times, you know the drive is coming from Cook, but he’s so good at getting a defender to make a mistake and can get right to his left hand. Cook also had all four of his team’s points in overtime, including the game-winning bucket. There are a lot of mid-major programs evaluating Cook this season. With his blend of strength, athleticism, length, and go-to scoring ability, can definitely see a D1 making a move here.

Each time I see Daugherty, he looks more like a wing. The 6-foot-8 forward is coming off a huge July and looks to be coming into his own, which is good, because the Lancers are going to demand a lot of him this season. Daugherty played just one game, but scored 18 points in a win over West Allis Central. Really liked the way Daugherty was able to either face-up and score in the mid-range or attack off the dribble from the arc. He’s a terrific 3-point shooter that can rise and fire with ease at his size, but with his improved handles and confident attacking ability, Daugherty causes a lot of matchup problems. Central doesn’t have an overly big team, so Daugherty is going to have to be a force on the glass and as a rim protector. Thought he did both well on Sunday, challenging shots and not leaving his feet until the offensive player did first.

Think Franks is really starting to expand his game and become more than just a spot-up shooter. Make no mistake, he can make a living at the Division 1 level with his catch-and-shoot game, but Franks isn’t resting on his laurels there. Been waiting to see him get stronger, more athletic, and more aggressive when it comes to putting the ball on the deck and using his size to his advantage. If this continues, can see Franks bolting up the rankings this season. The junior guard had 23 points in a loss to Madison Edgewood. In what was a down day for the Highlanders, thought Franks carried his team, tried to get them going leadership-wise, and was a catalyst on both ends of the floor.

The biggest surprise from Sunday, Geske had two big performances. Once a couple of shots fell, Geske just started going crazy offensively. The 6-foot-4 wing was drilling contested 3-pointers and forced the defense to just take the ball out of his hands at one point and run him off the line. Geske does a lot of hard work on the floor. He’s a tough-minded, physical player that wins contested rebounds, moves people on the block and is an easy target under the rim, and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time defensively. Among all the ways he stood out, Geske’s feet in traffic was probably the most eye-opening part of his performances. He doesn’t slash a lot, but when he did, Geske was able to work between multiple defenders with a nice spin move.

Caught a little bit of what Hill was able to do against New Berlin West Sunday morning. Kid looks like he could be in store for a breakout year as a senior. A strong, athletic guard, Hill showcased some explosive blow-by ability on the ball. Hill sticks his foot in the ground and goes with authority. Thought his finishing package was impressive as well. Hill wasn’t playing above the rim, but showed he can go through defenders or around them in mid-range, mixing it up with strength and finesse layups. Defenders started giving Hill a lot of space, and he was able to make them pay, walking into some rhythm triples.

Liked the way Lamb attacked and scored against Homestead. He’s listed at 6-foot-2, but looks, and certainly plays a lot bigger. A strong, aggressive wing, Lamb can handle the ball well for his size and high speeds. Was really impressed by the way he was able to come downhill in transition or in the halfcourt and change directions explosively on the ball. Lamb is a shot maker from mid and 3-point range, can defend multiple positions, and rebounds well for his spot. A little early yet, but think there’s a lot of value here at the Division 3 level.

– 2025 – G – Whitnall
The 2025 class in Wisconsin is loaded. People forget that Lutz had one of the better seasons among all freshmen last year. Lutz played huge minutes for a very good Whitnall squad. The Falcons were shorthanded on Sunday, which allowed Lutz to just cook. He might not look the part, but Lutz has a lot of game and there’s a certain swagger about him. He’s a strong shooter off the bounce and sets up his pull-ups nicely. The 6-foot guard can knock down shots in a variety of ways and seems to score equally well going both right and left. Some combo guard ability here too. Lutz has excellent floor vision and can take advantage of defenders who are cheating into the paint. We’ll see how the 2022-23 season plays out, but think Lutz might be under-ranked at this point.

Don’t know if anybody had a better day Sunday than Rise. A much-improved guard, Rise put on a good show against West Allis Central and Whitnall. Last year, Rise was a guy that took his lumps as a freshman. Teams got after him up the floor and were able to rattle rise with pressure. I don’t think that’ll be the case in 2022-23. Rise is much more decisive and confident on the ball. He looked really good off the dribble on Sunday, going right at defenders with a pull-up game from 3-point and mid-range. Rise made a handful of outstanding passes as well, hitting back-door cutters in stride. Defensively, Rise was just as good. He his hands were all over the basketball, creating turnovers both as a primary and help defender.
