In this article we’re going to take a look the five top performers from the Toledo Top 64 event held at Lourdes University on Sunday. This event was loaded with talent from NW Ohio with talent ranging from high major to Division III recruits. In this article we’ll look at the top five performers.
The most notable prospect at the event and in the Toledo area, Jerry Easter II Jerry Easter II 6’5″ | PG La Lumiere | 2025 #55 Nation IN was dominant for his team. Easter has the ability to get lower than his defender with the ball in his hands despite standing at 6’5. His ball-handling is his best trait by far and this ability to get low allows him to change directions and keep the ball away from defenders looking to swipe at the ball. Easter also was money from the mid-range and showed off some improved burst as he threw down a couple dunks in transition. The biggest thing for Easter to develop is a 3-point shot, once again his jumper was falling from 15-18 feet but he couldn’t find the range from behind the 3-point line. Easter’s ceiling as a college prospect will likely depend on how reliable he is from 3-point range.
Hornbeak was the talk of the gym and walked away with two offers less than 24 hours after the event concluded. Hornbeak has been a clear scholarship prospect for a while in my eyes and Sunday just further confirmed that belief. Hornbeak shot the ball at a higher clip from 3-point range than I’ve ever previously seen from him, making at least five 3-pointers in one game. Hornbeak was as usual attacking the rim with a lot of aggressiveness and finding ways to score around the basket. Hornbeak should be a prospect that Division II and NAIA programs target, especially after his performance on Sunday.
Brewer just keeps on getting better every time I watch him play and was serving buckets however you’d like them on Sunday. Brewer is a tough cover with the ball in his hands and has taken a clear step from the winter/spring with his confidence as a creator for himself. Brewer will be one of the top players in Division IV this season as Antwerp looks to have another deep playoff run after the graduation of Jagger Landers.
Highlights
Jacoby was another prospect who really impressed me on Sunday because he did everything I usually saw from him and then some. As a 6’8 C, Jacoby is naturally expected to protect the rim and rebound, and he does that consistently. On Sunday however he combined those skills with a bunch of jumpers, something I’d previously only seen him flash every once in a while. If Jacoby’s shooting development is real he could make a leap as a prospect during our next rankings update.
A highly touted prospect who I have never gotten to see play in person and that’s why he hasn’t been ranked on our website. Vorst finally looks healthy again and he was very impressive on Sunday. Vorst is capable of finishing with either hand in the post and shows a lot of skill and coordination with the ball in his hands. Vorst was moving pretty well and had a couple dunks off cuts and put-backs. Vorst looks like a clear mid-major level prospect if he can stay healthy and I don’t think it’s going to take very long for D1 programs to pull the trigger once they see him play and work out in front of them.
